Cant select multiple units using control

Does anyone have a fix for this? What i mean by that is that in the original game, if you had a few units selected lets say villagers, you could hold down control and you would select the new units without deselecting the ones previously selected. Now when i hold down control only the ones i already selected remain.

You can change the hotkey "Append group 1,2,3,..." Default is Shift instead of control

This function works fine to me and has unit type filter..
U can only select other units with ctrl + frame selection which are the same type.
For example, you can only select army but you cannot select villager when you select army first.
Similarly, choose villager cannot select army with this as well

It doesnt work when i changed append group, i dont think i need to change it from hotkeys since it isnt a hotkey but rather a change in shift/control

I'm having the same problem as Tamron -- in all previous versions of AoE2, you could ctrl+click+drag to add more units to your current selection. In DE it appears to have changed to shift+click+drag. Ctrl+shift+drag ignores villagers. This is a pretty huge mechanical change (for me), has anyone found a workaround?

Just in general, window selection does not work well in comparison to HD. It seems to favor Military over villagers, if it even works. Patience is the key, and theres no room for that in some events
