if all you care about is singleplayer i'd go with aoe2 though.
If you are only buying one (and this is in the most literal sense) go with AOE 2, the game simply has more content and is more refined. Not a lot of people would say that the 1st game is better than the second; in this case it holds to be true.
Np man, enjoy the game, I know I have for the past 20 years haha.
If you have some money to spent you can take a look into AoE 1 DE as well. But I'd suggest to wait for a sale
Depends on personal taste. AoE 1 has a very clumpsy gameplay where you can literally run out of resources even in team games ^^ But if you like ancient history you might like it
