AoE 1 DE vs AoE 2 DE
which one is better, i want to buy only one...

at this moment in time for me its definately aoe1. runs smooth as silk, graphics are better in my opinion (units move much smoother). i would/will switch to aoe2 however once they fix the fps issues because overall its the better game. go for aoe1 and in like 6 months check out if aoe2 has been fixed.

yes but i want to buy only one.....what about gameplay, mechanics ? civilisations, campaign, AI ? mods ?

gameplay / mechanics are pretty much the same. aoe2 introduced some little things like gates for walls, more options to make gold etc. cool things but essentially both play the same way.
if all you care about is singleplayer i'd go with aoe2 though.

Age of Empires 1 DE is beautiful and I will always love it, but Age of Empires 2 DE is even more beautiful with the bonus of your having better control of things.

If you are only buying one (and this is in the most literal sense) go with AOE 2, the game simply has more content and is more refined. Not a lot of people would say that the 1st game is better than the second; in this case it holds to be true.

AoE 2 DE is the way to go. I don't know if it's because I already own classic and HD but I have the option to select AI characteristics from other the other games which is kinda neat. Also DE looks fantastic and what little bugs it has aren't game-breaking and the devs have already acknowledged them and are putting in the work to fix it.

AoE2 is just way better game in terms of gameplay, it's not even a competition between the two games, AoE2 wins hands down.

If you have some money to spent you can take a look into AoE 1 DE as well. But I'd suggest to wait for a sale

Depends on personal taste. AoE 1 has a very clumpsy gameplay where you can literally run out of resources even in team games ^^ But if you like ancient history you might like it

In AOE 1 DE there is something about starting as a caveman and gradually getting control of tools, bronze and then iron. It gives you the feeling of living in the dawn of man. Sometimes it is good to understand such things.
