It is almost impossible to win that scenario unless you are playing on Standard difficulty (and even then for many players it could be hard)
You are facing 3 imperial age opponents, you start with only 6 villagers and it's almost impossible to replenish your army since you are IN CASTLE AGE. The burgundy base/outpost gives you like 400 food like its year 1999.

If you try going north through the "secret" forest path, you get over run by English since they have almost infinite number of resources and the AI is more attentive when it spots you, it sends all units towards you. (That is if you got rid of Shrewsbury and Burgundy early on... if you didn't then RIP even faster)

Elite longbows outrange even your castles, and the attacks are constant. I tried getting rid of Burgundy and Shrewsbury early into the game, but when I did it.... the English already sent elite longbows and trebs and onagers like an endless wave.

I understand the fact the AI is way better in combat now, but the fact that NOTHING has been changed in the scenario to assist you is pretty much downright stupid and turns me away from the scenario.

That's exactly what I did, after killing Shrew and Burgundy with starting army I managed to turtle in the base and defend vs crazy onager longbow treb combos... until I reached imperial age
Hey, the original mission was quite cassual, but now it is bloody ungeatable on hard...wtf really??? I love this game but now it is rubbish. At least this mission
and the elite longbowman operated by Hard AI.... pain in the as*
ok, update.... on standard it is faaar tooo easy
they attack no matter what at 30 minute mark however the attake is nothing compared to the HELL at 20 mins, i bet it is even for theViper unbeatable at hard!!

beat it on max difficulty : build some ships on left river, trigger britain by destroying north burgundy, destroy enemy ships and send all your remaining troops to left river corner in britain camp, then pray that your troops and wagon will reach the destination

and dont forget to save all the time, took me ~7 hours to win

Made me rage on hard difficulty as well. Immediate attacks by endless swarms of longbows, trebs, rams and heavy cav feel pretty much impossible to beat if the map is played the intended way.

I took the southern Burgundian base, turtled up and then just sent some sacrificial ships to take shots with a transport carrying the flag following them down the river. Unload the flag cart behind English defenses and rush for the hill. You might need to sneak around by sticking to the edge of the map to avoid the bombard tower and maybe micro the cart a bit to avoid shots or even bring some units as a distraction.

AI's a nightmare with kiting your units with every single longbowman, not even cav can catch them efficiently, and dodging most arrows and canon shots.

Mission hints imply that the English AI will be in a defensive stance but that's definitely not true.

Ah, yes, the mission also hints that you should use bombard cannons against the longbowmen, but that is simply not practical as the AI dodges every single shot whether it's right clicked or attack ground. Cannot compete with its micro.

Yeah, that was some dark humor right there. :P

We will see how english longbows fare against french cannon!

I did it on hard with just my starting army. This was my first campaign and the ai longbow micro pissed me off so hard I've done standard since. Basically you avoid burgundy by treb cutting trees south of burgundy north town and walk across river into the english and proceed northwest and break the gate and run into the hill with your cart. 90% of your army is just there to die for the cart. Probably took me 30 mins with some reloads to do it this way.

that s exactly why I came to the forums! damn! i did it pretty easily in HD but i just get rushed by crazy amounts of enemies now. longbowmen with onagers together, plus orange was spamming heavy cavalery... and orange was attacking very heavily far before i destroyed the TC of purple...
Heinrich Nov 17, 2019 @ 6:08pm
It isnt that hard even on hard mode in comparison with other remaning campaign
You just need to finish purple and orange as quick as possible

Well, it is beatable on the hardest difficulty but it drove me insane and took me 3 hours. Yep, moderate is the way to play from now on.

Dodging has been enhanced.
That's why campaigns are so hard when face civ like mongols or British. It is quite annoying. And starting econ is not balance. I assume hard is designed for top players who have great skills to play against
Juerg Pinki Nov 17, 2019 @ 7:06pm
well ok, if you dont destroy the nothern TC of purple, it becomes really easy.
