Joan of Arc level 6
It is almost impossible to win that scenario unless you are playing on Standard difficulty (and even then for many players it could be hard)
You are facing 3 imperial age opponents, you start with only 6 villagers and it's almost impossible to replenish your army since you are IN CASTLE AGE. The burgundy base/outpost gives you like 400 food like its year 1999.

If you try going north through the "secret" forest path, you get over run by English since they have almost infinite number of resources and the AI is more attentive when it spots you, it sends all units towards you. (That is if you got rid of Shrewsbury and Burgundy early on... if you didn't then RIP even faster)

Elite longbows outrange even your castles, and the attacks are constant. I tried getting rid of Burgundy and Shrewsbury early into the game, but when I did it.... the English already sent elite longbows and trebs and onagers like an endless wave.

I understand the fact the AI is way better in combat now, but the fact that NOTHING has been changed in the scenario to assist you is pretty much downright stupid and turns me away from the scenario.

It's the final mission. It's supposed to be hard, like a "boss" mission.

Sometimes the computer wins...but are we really meant to be able to beat them?

Glad it's not just me struggling. I was about to attempt the kill Shrewsbury after taking over Burgundy, but you've saved me some time now for saying it doesn't help in anyway, haha. I've tried doing everything, from turtling to improving infantry / archer damage and armour but nothing has worked. English longbow ♥♥♥♥♥ over everything at a distance, pikeman destroy my hero and cavalry units :(

playing this on hard right now, you are right , in the original it was challenging but it was doable, in DE i dont see a way to beat this

So after messing up the campaigns in Age 1 DE they did it again? :D I remember playing and beating that mission on hard fairly easily in the original game, Joan of Arc is not the campaign where the game should get hard even on "hard" difficulty.

I dunno why they keep doing this because as far as I know the campaigns are still supposed to use the original AI (or if not then give me the option to restore it because I'm not waiting 1 year until the devs fix all the bugs and make the new one playable) so it must be changes intentionally made for the maps.

I beat it on hard with cheese, dont destroy burgundy's tc (you wont get attacked that way) and go for orange and develop there. Once you finish booming wreck em all.

I got attacked after destroying Burgundy's southern base... I know about this TC trick but somehow it happened. I thought it was the new AI or the script didnt work as intended.

Okay so I made it after almost 5 hours of trying omg...

Basically, rush into Burgundy on the south, destroy their base and then come back to Burgundy on the north and destroy their base ( don't trigger English on the river since they will attack you at once). Apparently the destruction of the north TC triggers English to attack you, but in my case they attacked anyway after ~20 mins.

Keep going north to Shewsbury and destroy them by microing your bombard cannons really really good and efficiently. Protect your paladins otherwise it will be really freaking hard to do anything after 20th minute. :steamsad:

Turtle in your base with castle(s) and boom to imperial age. Collect resources from Shrewsbury base aswell since English will most likely be focused on your base in the conquered Burgundy base on the north. Then you can win. I hope this helps someone.

I was definitely struggling until I tried to take out Shrewsbury right away. They are barely defended and can easily be crushed by your starting army. But the real key to the scenario for me was building a castle right away. It fits nicely in that walled area in front of the stone. Then make sure to double up the walls in front of it. Finally garrison it with all your archers. Full of archers a castle shoots like a machine gun and easily takes out anything in seconds. Use your cav to lure longbows into range and as long as you keep a watch for trebs, nothing should really threaten you. But taking out shrewsbury first is a must so you will only face one front of attacks and Burgundy is just an annoyance with their infantry. I beat it on hard btw so it is doable.

This mission is... well, bs on hard, if you do it the normal way, but I did it yesterday. Took over 3 hours and a lot of saving/reloading.

What I did, or rather the only thing I could do, is defend until the AI ran out of resources.

My defense consisted of a castle, a group of cavaliers (later paladins) and about 5 monks.

It basically went like this: AI constantly streams in units, most of them get taken out by the Castle, I use monks to convert any cavaliers that come and I have my cavalry patrol under the castle while they get healed up by the monks. Every now and then, the AI will attack with a huge wave of trebuchets/rams. You have to destroy them asap ofc, but I lost my castle a couple times (just buy stone and rebuild).

After hours, the AI ran out of gold and mostly just sent trash. At that point, I was built up enough and could afford to send out my paladins and some trebuchets and take the AI down.

This mission needs rebalancing for sure.

Yeah, if they "broke" a mission the winning tactic is walling yourself in and defending until you set up a good economy as a general rule of thumb. For example in Age 1 DE one of the new maps they made for Reign of the Hittites was near impossible until they modified it so that you don't start in the stone age, until then the only way to beat it was to build your base in a defendable possition and just roughing it out until you had a chance to out tech the AI.

Played on Moderate. It was the hardest mission of the campaign, took me three tries.

First try I just took over the walled Burgundy town in the middle and tried to build up a base.. needless to say I got rushed and destroyed from three sides.

Second try I finished off southern Burgundy as well, turns out their armies aren't really that big of a problem with some monks and halberds. I still got rushed, you can't let Shrewsbury grow alongside.

Third try I dinged out Shrewsbury instead of sourthern Burgundy and they leave a tonne of resources for you to claim after your initial deposits are done for , with only the English as a real problem it's hard but not undoable.

I just finished it earlier. I went full Hand Cannoneers, light cav, rams and bbc, pretty much steam rolled them on hard.
Delinard Nov 17, 2019 @ 1:20pm
Finished this yesterday on moderate, it was really difficult, what i did was rush burgundy and shrewsbury with my starting units before english came, even when it became 1v1 i barely managed to survive.
