enhanced graphics pack
Hey all, Are there issues with the enhanced graphics pack, ANYONE? The game is running perfect for me, I'm really enjoying going through the different campaigns now. I am so scared the graphics pack is going to make me start crashing, or is it stable?

I really want to sew how it looks, I'm running in 1440p resolution, do you guys think it's going to improve the crispness of the game? I also heard I could zoom in closer with the pack, which I think would be cool. I would love to zoom in closer and see my guys a little better, when playing single player at least :)

I love the game, great job developers, thanks so much. I'll have this downloaded in about an hour, so have time to stop it still.

Please anyone, what's your thoughts? I guess I could uncheck the DLC if it does cause problems, but not sure. I did already make a backup of my game folder prior to the graphics pack being installed too.

How much ram is it using on your machine, while doing the benchmark?

UHD needs at least 16GB RAM, maybe even 20GB RAM. For me, in the William Wallace Battle of Falkirk mission, all 16 GB RAM is used and also all of 4GB GPU VRAM. You can check the usage between UHD and non UHD below.

I just tested in-game, at the main menu it's already using in excess of 10GB RAM, shooting up to nearly 14GB during gameplay, VRAM at ~6.75GB (!)

I can run the benchmark again if you're interested in the difference

Ye thats what I guessed.
So even 16GB ram is not enough and I probably should disable enhanced graphics

I think this dlc is something like an exit strategy for the devs.

If you compare AoE 1 DE, you can see that it has better graphics than the standard AoE2 DE without the HDPack.
In AoE1 you can zoom in very close, you can see faces of villagers and such things. In AoE2 DE (without HD pack) you have this very far away view and if you change the resolution to something less than 1080p, you can zoom in further, but see very blurry units.

I think the plan was to have AoE2 DE look like AoE1 DE, with good graphics even when zoomed in, but something was messed up and the performance was really super bad, so they decided to be super smart and lock the camera far away and offer a HD-pack FreeLC.

I think the original plan was to never offer this FreeLC, but they recognized, that they can't offer the game in the current state with this HD-pack as default, because half of the players wouldnt be able to play it.

With HD pack the game looks like AoE1 DE when zoomed in, but needs 24 GB RAM or such ridicolous number (which AoE1 ED doesn't need)

Both "normal" versions ("normal" AoE 1 DE and AoE 2 DE without HD Pack), same (or comparable) unit size on screen

AoE 1 DE

AoE2 DE

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1916592239

(both max details)

The AoE2 DE pic is not 1080, but you can't zoom in on 1080p in AoE2 ED (because it would look like this), but this it what it would look like if you COULD zoom in, without HD pack.

In AoE1 you can see the eyebrows of the bowman, in AoE 2 you can't see his face.

Do you guys only have 8 gb ram? If yes, thats why
I have 8gb RAM.
In the Beta, I was enable to play with the UHD without any problem
LOL youre playing the game on 8gb of ram in 2019 and you are posting about the upgraded textures not working right. thats like riding a bike with a flat tire and complaining because its slower. 16gb is low for a windows 10 pc. i build pcs and i built mine with 32gb like 6 years ago. this is an upgraded version of the game for people who want better graphics. if you dont want better graphics then you can keep playing without the upgrade pack. they gave us the best of both worlds so that people with ancient hardware can still play the game and people with even somewhat modern hardware can use the upgraded version.

Yes yes, and why is AoE1 looking like AoE 2 with UHD and needs only 8 GB?
Why a refreshed game from 1999 needs more ressources than Warhammer Total War 2 or The Witcher 3 or Red Dead Redemption 2?

A german game tester (Gamestar) said with 32GB RAM and i7 he got 20-30 fps with the UHD Pack.

It's ridiculous PERIOD.
