How to zoom
I know you can set a default zoom value and scroll in-game to modify it there, but I've seen people zoom really really close, far closer than what Inam able to zoom in... How exactly can I do that?

Yep, you need the Enhanced Graphics DLC. Make sure to have a proper monitor as well, otherwise the game is zoomed in too much.
My monitor has 27'' and does the job.

change the resolution in your settings in windows to a smaller one. You can also do that in aoe2 options as well.

I have the same question. I´ve been searching and I think the 27" monitor is a must.
