The system first matches players => then check map bans => then check preferred map
Devs your preferred map button is BROKEN. Fix it NOW.
If two players are matched but have different preferred maps it invalidates the option and a random map is chosen. If both players have the same preferred map then that map is selected. If one player has a preferred map choice and the other doesn't, then the first player's preferred choice is selected. So basically if two or more players have selected their preferred map and they don't match, then it's just gonna select a random map.
Not unexpected, when in a 4v4 you'll have 8 Favorited maps and a large chance your map will be banned.
I wonder whether they could even remove bans now that we have the favourite feature...
And on team games the chance of someone ban your map is huge (can even be from your own team lol).
PS: Players that don't have much time to play ban Black Forest btw. (I sometimes do it too).
+1
This is an interesting probability and statistical problem, of which I have limited knowledge, but i concur what he said. The chances of your preferred map ending up in someones ban list is more, because there are 3 choices to be made.
That is why less result on Blackforest. Arena will have more. Arabia will have highest, because Arabia gets played a lot and will be on more players preferred list
1st: Show everyone that there are not one or two maps that are unanimous among 99% of players and that the MP of AOE II should boil down only to playing these few maps repeatedly for all eternity. Doing well on any battlefield has always been part of the war's strategy.
2nd: What is your favorite map information available to other players in the match? Because if the answer is yes, banning your favorite map becomes an essential part of your match strategy. Sometimes the guy even likes that map too, but he has no problem playing on another because he thinks that changing the map will hurt the enemy team more than his team. The "Favourite Map" function becomes a guide to what the enemy can't let you choose.
