Campaign AI
Hello,

I'm new to editing and a little unsure if what I'm trying to do is even possible, but I was trying to edit the campaign maps to make them coop and have the AI in them still work the way it did when you play the levels in single player. I've extracted the campaign maps so they can be edited, added another human player and altered some of the triggers slightly to accommodate 2 human players, but the problem I am facing is that when it comes to actually playing with a friend, the AI acts completely different. For example, on the first Joan of Arc level, enemies start exploring the map straight away, which is something they wouldn't do if you were to play the map via the campaign menu. I believe I've managed to extract the AI files, but I don't actually know where to put them for them to be an option in the scenario editor if this makes sense? I'm not particularly tech-savvy and would appreciate any input from anyone that's a bit more experienced in editing / AI's.

Thank you.

You need to move the extracted .ai and .per files to \steamapps\common\AoE2DE\resources\_common\ai. Then you can select them for each player in the editor under the players tab.

Thanks,

Ok, so it looks like I moved them to the right folder, but I only have the .per files. Is there a way to extract the .ai files from campaigns?

Unless the campaign AI files have more info than custom AI files, you don't need to worry about the "xxx.ai" files. Just include empty text files with the same name as the AI "xxx.per" file in the same folder.

For instance, a campaign I created had these AI files:
odayakanami.ai
odayakanami.per
kuroji.ai
kuroji.per

The PER files are what contains the actual AI information, while the AI files seem to be mostly for display purposes in the editor. I've yet to see an AI file with data inside it; all of that is in the PER.

Now, if there is something special about the official campaign AI files... I hope someone else can direct you to where to get them.

Thanks, that helps. I'll check it out and see how it goes.

Yeah .ai files are just there so they appear in the list in-game. You can create them yourself.

Thank you guys. Just tested the 1st Joan of Arc level in coop on hard mode with a friend the AI worked perfectly. Will be nice to edit a harder level though and see how challenging a coop campaign will be.
