Heavy Cav Archer:
Mounted Archer. Strong vs. slow units at long range. Weak vs Elite Skirmish and units at close range. Upgrades: atack, range, armor (Blacksmith); accuracy, armor (Archery Range); atack, accuracy (University)......
This "accuracy (Archery Range)" clearly refers to the Thumb Ring.
Perhaps some of you haven't noticed, but when the castle is all garnished and shooting too many arrows, and the enemy has many units together, the castle throws some of the arrows at the first target and if he dies, throw what's left in the next unit, if the units are more separate the remaining arrows are wasted.
Sometimes, if there's a second target behind the first, the remaining arrows pass the castle's maximum range to hit that second target, like, "I shot the first target inside the range and hit the second target that was out of range by luck.
Good question, I have the same doubt but with the Orgun Gun. Like, if he doesn't do what you described, he's kind of a 100% useless unit.
-But they need ballistics to hit a moving target (assuming enemy doesnt micro).

Current skirms have 90% accuracy without thumbring. But that's never been the point of this thread because everyone misunderstands what it means. Accuracy means being able to hit a spot consistently. Units fire at spots that targets are occupying. Ballistics make units fire at the spots targets will be occupying based on target and missile travel speed.
What this also means is that, with Micro, even ballistics will miss depending on range and projectile speed because as it has been mentioned, ballistics does not create homing missiles.
It simply takes into account the projectile and target velocity, and if the target velocity changes while the missile is travelling then the spot the shooter predicted will no longer be occupied by the target by the time it arrives. Skirm projectiles are accurate but slow, making them imprecise at range as it is more viable to dodge them with micro than most projectile units.
