Are there people with bad PCs trying to play this game?
I know this may sound elitist, but if your PC is a potato you should not try run high spec games on it. Oh, sure, maybe your PC can run AOE 2 2013. But trying to run AOE 2 DE seems full hardy.

What I'm saying is the game should not have to downgrade just because your PC can't run it. That said, yes, the game still needs fixing. (it's gotten better, but not perfect)

I agree, there are many people with minimum specs and windows 7 and that go out of their way to find work arounds to get DE to run on their computer. Which results in them joining games where the pop limit is 400 and then lag the ♥♥♥♥ out of the game for everyone else.

Yeah. It gets even worse when they have both a bad PC and bad internet.

Or even when I guy from the far east wants to play with me and I live in the europe.

high spec games? AoE 2 DE is no where near being a high spec game, the "recommended" specs they listed on the store page are a low end gtx from 2012. With the HD 5850 being from 2009. and any cpu that matches an i5 @ 2.4ghz being good enough.

Also I think the downgrade people want is to revert to the previous update because this update is apparently full of bugs.

AOE can have tons of units on the map. You need a fairly strong PC to calculate all the activity. Especially when there are hundreds of trade cards on the map. And a Goth player is spamming infantry.

That is single player recommended, is absolutely insufficient to run 4v4 BF even with 200 pop max.

I frequently see laggers even in 4v4s when the pop reaches only 100 but the map is open and there's lots of fighting.

It's not about GPU, it's about CPU.

People with XBox icon 90% of the time run the game on cheap potato laptops, wishfully thinking their CPU's are just as good as desktop, which is why I kick everyone with XBox icon unless they are high rated and don't have big disconnect %.

Lol, I have a great gaming laptop, Alienware 17 R3, it runs AoE2 DE perfectly fine and other games like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. You might not understand why I prefer laptop over desktop, I guess I prefer having the ability to bring it with me wherever I go. Whether it's going to a friends house, air travel, or playing in another room, or being able to game while I'm taking a crap. That flexibility is awesome LOL.

I get your point, but the problem is the game, in the BOA tournament they had a lag problem caused by the game

I get it, and it's obvious that if you don't have the minimum specs you should probably not complain too much ( sometimes a complaint can be valid though) and you should not try to play any big team game sessions or multiplayer at all. BUT if you are willing to take the risk do it! It is fine and good ( it's your money?!) and there is no reason why somebody should not try.
Currently I have a rotten potato but it's totaly fine for playing the single player campaings with long loading times and sometimes lag: I personally found it rather amusing that iafter the launch people with high end specs sometimes complained heavily and guys with 5 years old laptop had no isues at all. Maybe I am a borderline low spec sado maso gamer but gaming is not about fps. Millenials can understand who it feels playing with low spec it is also somehow nostalgic remember the 75 populatian cap. My mind was blown when for the first time ( second Pc we owned, the first came with Age II for free) I could play with 200 population and had an almost fluent game instead fo slidwshows
But true a downgrade is not the nicest thing even I hate that the sails aren't animated anymore!

How does somebody else in your game having a bad computer affect your game play experience in any way? The servers are already trash. We already have 2-3 second input lag on every command while playing online, regardless of what computer you use. If somebody's computer can't handle the graphics of the game, the only one losing frames in that game will be the person with the bad computer. Their frame loss has nothing to do with or have any impact on your connection, frame loss due to poor hardware is not a server side issue.

Are you sure my laptop can run a 4v4 BF without much problems, the lag is rare.

I have good desktop, but I also have an old crappy 2012 laptop myself and tried running 1v1 vs a friend of mine with GTX 1080Ti, i7-8700, etc.

I set 500 pop with infinite resources. I was lagging, Even he started lagging once we were above 350. That's how I know.

Nope, a player with a bad PC would also lag out others

I'm sorry, but the only way a player with a bad PC can lag out other players on the server would be if his connection is bad. But this has nothing to do with having a bad PC that can't run the game on max settings. You can have a potato PC with a really good connection and not "lag" the other players. A player with a bad PC, who is losing frames due to insufficient hardware, cannot possibly cause other players on the server to lose frames because HIS hardware is bad on HIS computer. It just doesn't work that way
