Good civs for beginners?

What are some good civs for beginners to start off with and which civs are considered to be the hardest to play in this game and perhaps some good defensive civs?

Newer players usually have a slow paced and defensive style, by focusing on upgrades and only attacking at imperial age, and some of them might dislike civs with poor technology trees that lacks the final upgrades, so i'd say Byzantines and Spanish are the best for beginners, since they have a good technology tree and great defenses.

huns is good for beginner i think, and offense is best defense don't even try to camp and boom economic at base most player will try rekt you once they reach feudal age in pvp 1vs1.

Depends on how you define "good"

-Good for winning : Huns / Franks / Khmer / Persians
All good for scout rush & fast castle knights

-Good for learning : Saracens
Basically no eco / military bonus

Britons is "noob favorite" when it comes to civs, very strong archers that can outrange enemy archers/skirms and enemy mangonels, so they are not that micro intensive. Britons also have a full tech blacksmith and a strong barracks with champion and halbs which makes them versatile and gives some good options when it comes to tech-switching, though their stable is bad. They also have decent dock tech so can work well on hybrid maps. Britons is a civ that is loved by noobs and pros alike.

I also reccommend downloading the mod "Interactive Build Order Guide" and learn one of the archer build orders. Though when playing them live you only need 5 on sheep instead of the usual 6 as they have an eco bonus that makes villagers on sheep work 25% faster.

(2) Lack of thumb ring makes their xbows / arbs bad in straight fights.
(3) Cheaper TC doesnt really matter as noobs have zero idea about booming with extra TCs.

Try Britons , Biz , Frenchs , Celts or Teutons. I guess. And choose youre fav army comp like (arch- horses or inf army) . The game have a lot of strategy, Vikings or Japanese are good civs to pick for learn. Cya.

if you know a basic build order (art of war for example) I recommend Persians, their extra food gives you room for error, and are overall a top civ with their tc work rate, tech that makes archers cost no gold, and extended cav tree

To be fair on the first point, noobs also don't know how to micro against the extra range. But yeah they're not super noob friendly.

I would actually reccomend a civ like Britons (not necessarily them) though. Because with Britons, its very obvious what you're going to do every game. You're gonna build archers. That keeps things really simple. And if a new player is trying to figure out what units they should build and how to micro cav + archer + mangonel + etc all at once, they're not macroing. And that's all a new player should be doing. Just build villagers constantly, spend your money, if you're doing those 2 you're probably already above average.

So I'd reccomend any civ where its very simple and obvious how to play. And Britons happen to be one of those civs, but I think a knight civ is probably easier to use.

Either that or huns, its probably easier to learn how macro works if you don't keep getting housed.

At the very least, the "pick a simple easy strategy and just learn how to macro" strategy is good in starcraft. You hit diamond league before you have to micro or know ♥♥♥♥ about the game. I can't imagine aoe is much different.

I don't think a new player should be focusing on taking relics. A mid level player should focus on that. A new player is gonna be sitting there on 20 vills with no eco upgrades thinking "yes I got a relic".

New players should start with the basics. Not start with everything all at the same time.

if you care about improving, the best might just be random or even a bad civ on purpose. Going any civ with eco-privileges or Huns will get you into bad habits.
