How to counter Slavs & Magyars with Coreans?

Hi Team,

Me & a Mongol were just slowly crushed by a combined force of Slavic & Magyar forces. I wanted to get your feedback on how could I've rejected their attack.

My Army composition:

• Initial:
  
  • Siege Onagers to take advantage of Korean bonuses,
    
  • War Wagons,
    
  • Cavalry to defend them: Cavaliers & Hussars.
• Later
  
  • Cavalry: Cavaliers, Hussars, Cavalry Archers & War Wagons.

Magyar Army composition:

• Winged Hussars, which countered my siege & was able to defeat my cavalry several times. Being them cheaper than my cavaliers, I could think of nothing.
  
• Halberdiers & Onagers.

Slavs Army composition:

• Heavy cavalry, which countered my cavalry.
  
• Halberdiers & Siege Onagers.

The Mongol player was knocked out right away, & I had to slow defend him & myself from enemy attacks slowly but steadily defeating our forces. Even a Viking attempt to attack the Magyar base was crushed incredibly fast. So my question is: what could I've countered them with?

• Capped rams are no match to their siege rams & cavalry.
  
• Archers & skirmishers are of no use against their cavalry & their siege onagers.
  
• Hand cannoneers & cannons would've fallen easily as well to siege onagers & winged hussars.
  
• I didn't even try infantry, as their siege would've done the trick.

Massed haleibards+war wagons&scorpions...to initially focus on booming(~130vils) then begin to add mass hussar. The main reason for this is to allow most of the food income to be invested in booming while wood&gold is spent on units...
As for the enemy siege u got 2 decent options: a few bombard canon or husars(if massed pikes aren't involved) avoiding to counter with yr own superior onagers may be advised if u can't reliably micro and constantly splash yr own melee troops.

While the mongol should focus on hunting&booming while defending himself with lancers&camels and later on transition into husar&mangudai

Mongols : mangudai + siege rams / siege onagers (+ hussars for raiding)
Koreans : halbs + BBC / BBT

-Yeah. The Mongols player just names to mass mangudai and siege on ages. Can throw some camels to counter paladins if needed too.

-You should have thrown your own halbs into the play.

-As Koreans I wouldn't have really went cavalier.

You can't compete with Korean cavalry against good cav civ! You lack two of the most important upgrades... Cavaliers have at least a decent base attack, but the poor Hussars can just scratch your enemy... (9 attack against 5-6 armor...)

If you have siege onager, I asume you have almost all upgrades, so:

For me the play was to go with mass halbardiers (to deal with the cav, and with the reduced cost you play on your strengh), a few skirmishers (to deal with their halbardiers and help you if they switch to an archer play) and siege, but not for onagers, for bombard canons.

It's one weakness of Magyars and Slavs, they can play many things, but their siege units are weak to bombard canons if they can't deal with it with cav. And bombard are effective during a push to destroy castle. (Onagers can be usefull, but it's realy risky against Magyar hussars which can destroy them realy fast... It's the same problem for bombard canons, but you NEED them to protect your halbardiers against onagers)

The problem is: It would have been realy hard on the micro.



But your biggest mistake (well, it's easy for me to say that XD) was to have to fight them in post-imperial age. Slavs and Magyar are REALY strong at this age and you are forced to fight their strengh... (Top tier trash, good siege...) If you have been able to fight them sooner, they would be here to ask how to counter a mass of archer or War Wagon ^^
