Where do you see your ELO?
I played my first ranked game and won. It said rating 1048(+0) after the game. Does that mean I didn't gain points? And I can't find my ELO anywhere.

-Correct, this means you may have gotten matched against someone too weak so no points were added.
Well the joy of my victory just went down the drain. Not only will I not be gaining any points, but the game I did my best at and stressed over and barely won was apparently against someone so bad the game doesn't even count them.

Is there a way to ensure that your matches will make you progress? Wether it be gaining or loosing ELO.

Ohh and also, it says I have no ELO

-If you just only started playing ranked, then your first ten matches are placements, so they may be a little odd as the other poster mentioned. Don't feel bad, it'll work more like you are expecting once you get placed.

-This typically happens if you waited for a while for a match, and it expands the parameters, so you may match downward or upward.

It sounds like it was an engaging game :)

The first couple of ranked matches are a little odd wrt Elo. The game is supposed to recognise that it doesn't know how good you are, so it won't give Elo to your opponents (or take it away) and your Elo will swing a lot. Parts of the game may say you 'have no Elo'.
It settles down quite quickly.

I can only see my Elo in the stats screen after I've finished a ranked match. It might be something to do with the way my system is set up, (there's another screen that's supposed to show my Elo and doesn't,) but it doesn't matter much. Elo is just supposed to make sure you play against people approximately your own level.

Okay, I shall just keep playing then :) I just wanted to know beacuse I appreciate knowing what the matchmaking structure is like.

Yes, as Dare Devil said: The first ten matches are there to find your starting-ELO.

But just to prepare you: at least for me it took another ~10 matches (=10 losses) after that to drop to an ELO range that suited my level.
