Can't launch game after latest update
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Before the update the game worked fine and now it won't run at all. I've tried to uninstall my antivirus, reinstall game, and to delete mods but nothing worked! Can I somehow play the game without the new update, bacause as I said it worked fine before

Yeah same here! Worked perfectly before latest update

-If you do not have antivirus then please try this:

1. Navigate to: Users\me\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\userID\

2. Delete file "mod-status.json"

3. Launch game.

4. Disable all your mods in the mods menu.

5. Relaunch game.

6. Turn on one mod at a time and relaunch until you find the broken mod.

7. Post back which mod broke game launching and we can hopefully pass to developers.

THIS!!!! I've tried everything to get this to launch and nothing. Everything is up to date and I've uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times.

Same issue here : worked fine before the update, now it won't even start. When i click on the play button on steam, a box opens saying "starting age of empires" for like a second or two, then nothing happens and the Steam button "start" is back. (as if i didn't start the game)

I deleted "mod-status.json" and the game still didn't start...

I just bought the game, it doesn't open at all, already reinstalled, no antivirus issues, no mods, no nothing... :steamsad:

-Have you tried the pinned thread? You may need to reinstall Microsoft c++ redistributables.

Hi everyone! I'm sorry to hear there's been trouble starting the game after the recent update.

There are a few things we can troubleshoot:

  • Can you please Verify the Integrity of the Game files to ensure that there isn't a corrupt file causing issues?
  • Can you disable any mods on the website[www.ageofempires.com] before trying to log in? The latest update changed how some mods (particularly graphics and UI mods) interact with the game. Disabling them should allow you to bypass the issue.
  • If you have not already, please work through the steps in this article[www.ageofempires.com]. This will ensure there aren't other factors preventing the game from running properly.

Let me know if any of those work for you, or if you continue to have issues starting the game.

-Great, in order to help individuals, if anyone is still having problems after doing the steps Dragon has listed out, please create a new thread for easier tracking.
