This even says that Indonesian language is basically a variant of Malay. I recommend you to go with the Javanese card, which seems more suitable.
Anyway, I still don't get why it's a matter, if "Indians" is a rude generalization of the different ethnic groups in that subcontinent, "Malians" is a generalization of the entire West Africa Coast, & a lot other civs have the same nuisance, that don't prevent us to have a cool Incas vs Mongols skirmishes.
its more Indonesian than Malay.
This game is based on civilizations, not a modern nation state
Malay = Around 1800
Indonesia = after 1945
I just told, Malay is not the exact, Indonesia also. So it should be called Javanese or Majapahit empire, but the story in the campaign is Majapahit empire (Indonesia NOW) with Gajah Mada story as a reference of Indonesia history. So it's more accurate than Malay.
-Franks
-Britons
-Vikings
-Teutons
-Indians
-Sarracens
-Celts
These are "civs" that either don't correspond with the actual civilisations or are stretched beyond reason to make fit with the game's focus
