Moderate AI isn't too difficult to beat even if you give it time. Do the fast castle, defending against a rush and booming challenges in art of war and then do it against the AI.
Play the Vikings and fight Slavs or Bulgarians (so the enemy uses units that are not cost effective such as Boyars)
Your zerkers can deal with the Boyars and Konniks when massed, not to mention the Slavs have weak archers.
Just play slow and lure enemies' Boyars and Konniks to your castles. Zerkers can take down siege weapons and weakened cavalry.
I heard that Booming is currently bugged, but it just means that you need to build a castle to go imperial in the scenario.
Macro in this game is (almost) everything.
The Art of War levels are helpful, I did them over and over to improve my timings.
The first level is getting to the feudal age in minutes - Super helpful (to me anyway)
I focus more on economy first up so I pump out villagers non-stop and don't even bother with military until later.
Everyone is different, but I go on the defence - building walls.. gives more time. I also starve AI of their resources early on which I find helps too.
Also it's not a big deal if you tower rush him while he's already in feudal. A well placed tower will do sufficient damage to cripple a moderate AI
