how do i beat moderate AI
i try tower rushing them but the moderate ai ALWAYS hits feudal before i do. i do 6 on sheep/boar/berries, 4 on wood and by the time i send the first one off to stone they have hit feudal right before i am about to queue it. i can reliably crush standard but moderate is absolutely relentless especially if you give them any chance to build their economy.

Bots almost always go for Feudal aggression. You're not doing yourself no favours by trying to fast Castle, of course they're going to reach feudal before you. You also obviously aren't good enough to beat Standard AI properly, as AI can't properly deal with tower rushing. You need to go back to Standard or lower, and learn feudal age aggression.

i have beaten the ai many different ways since its the setting i have spent most of my time on so far i can even beat it after letting its economy boom but if i allow moderate ai any room to build their economy they beat me by attrition

You don't need to tower rush. You can just rush units, the AI is very susceptible to it even on extreme difficulty. They put their woodlines in terrible locations and they never wall. You can end the game with a men at arms rush, but even 3 scouts will get you a pretty solid lead most of the time as long as you stay out of TC range and continue to produce villagers while you attack.

Moderate AI isn't too difficult to beat even if you give it time. Do the fast castle, defending against a rush and booming challenges in art of war and then do it against the AI.

This is what I did.

Play the Vikings and fight Slavs or Bulgarians (so the enemy uses units that are not cost effective such as Boyars)

Your zerkers can deal with the Boyars and Konniks when massed, not to mention the Slavs have weak archers.

Just play slow and lure enemies' Boyars and Konniks to your castles. Zerkers can take down siege weapons and weakened cavalry.

i will use this advice. are these challenges in the campaign?

Art of War is on the main menu, otherwise it's in Asia in the campaigns

I heard that Booming is currently bugged, but it just means that you need to build a castle to go imperial in the scenario.

6 on food and 4 on wood? That seems like a weak economy to try and go for feudal. Go for at least 20 vils before clicking up.

Macro in this game is (almost) everything.

I first struggled with the massive leap that's between Standard and Moderate.
The Art of War levels are helpful, I did them over and over to improve my timings.
The first level is getting to the feudal age in minutes - Super helpful (to me anyway)
I focus more on economy first up so I pump out villagers non-stop and don't even bother with military until later.
Everyone is different, but I go on the defence - building walls.. gives more time. I also starve AI of their resources early on which I find helps too.

Try going for 6 on sheep, 3 on wood and then lure a boar with the next. You'll gather food faster and hit feudal earlier.
Also it's not a big deal if you tower rush him while he's already in feudal. A well placed tower will do sufficient damage to cripple a moderate AI
