Adding new elements and reshaping the gameplay, while keeping the plot and improving the campaigbn beyond the constraints of it's time, are the way to go.
Warcraft 3 Reforged should have added a new faction, 1 new Hero and a few units to the old factions, at least one new Campaign, and completely "Reforged" old Campaigns, along with healthy rebalancing for more casual audience (Blizzard's love affair with Esports is killing them).
If your "Reforge" is just a skin pack, I would rather retain the old game, and W3R was even priced as an Expansion, which was another mistake, along with forcefully "upgrading" Classic, which is a crucial error.
Props to the developers of DE for doing an amazing job. And despite there being problems (and I myself had some too), at least they communicate and we know that they know there are problems and are working on fixing them.
Meanwhile over at Blizzard forums: Dead silence from devs not only throughout the entire development process, but even after release, with only putting out one half assed "apology" where they are "sorry" that "you didn't like" what they did. LMAO.
I look forward to playing more AoE 2 DE and what the devs have in store with future updates.
Feels like AOE, plays like AOE, looks like AOE, but somehow they have vastly improved the gameplay. Yes there are bugs, but the devs are releasing a patch every month so I'm not worried about that.
I love AOE 2, but I already own 2 versions of it and don't really see myself going through all the campaign bits again. A custom game browser that auto loads up the maps i want to play would make it an instant buy though.
The AoE Editor is less powerful than the original War3 Editor, but with the new Blizzard EULA, no one will use the War3 Editor to make new Customs anymore, not to mention that the ability to even play many of them has been nuked by Blizzard, due to copyright infringement, and dev incompetence.
