THIS Is How To ‘Reforge’ Games: Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition THRASHES WC3:R
Just came across to this video, and I think its 100% accurate.
Thanks again for the great DE games and listening to us, your consumers!

I have been saying this for months. AoE2:DE and RE2 Remastered, are how you remaster/remake an old game for a modern audience. Gameplay from 2003 does not translate well to the modern day.

Adding new elements and reshaping the gameplay, while keeping the plot and improving the campaigbn beyond the constraints of it's time, are the way to go.

Warcraft 3 Reforged should have added a new faction, 1 new Hero and a few units to the old factions, at least one new Campaign, and completely "Reforged" old Campaigns, along with healthy rebalancing for more casual audience (Blizzard's love affair with Esports is killing them).

If your "Reforge" is just a skin pack, I would rather retain the old game, and W3R was even priced as an Expansion, which was another mistake, along with forcefully "upgrading" Classic, which is a crucial error.

I agree with the sentiment, but fact of the matter is, the original Warcraft 3 circa 2002 had WAAAY better and smoother matchmaking system than DE. Not to mention the profile system, the channel and clan systems.

In DE, you can't even whisper to a player in game if you wanted to, which was possible in WC3 18 years ago.
All things that have been removed with the release of Reforged though, so yeah. This comparison is between the remasters and one of those is more of a demaster.

Props to the developers of DE for doing an amazing job. And despite there being problems (and I myself had some too), at least they communicate and we know that they know there are problems and are working on fixing them.

Meanwhile over at Blizzard forums: Dead silence from devs not only throughout the entire development process, but even after release, with only putting out one half assed "apology" where they are "sorry" that "you didn't like" what they did. LMAO.

I look forward to playing more AoE 2 DE and what the devs have in store with future updates.

I haven't played W3 Reforged, so I can't really compare the different results. However, just looking at the 350+ hours I've put into DE over the past two months I can say the DE devs did an amazing job.

Feels like AOE, plays like AOE, looks like AOE, but somehow they have vastly improved the gameplay. Yes there are bugs, but the devs are releasing a patch every month so I'm not worried about that.

Does Age of Empires 2 have custom games that are as easily accessible was WC3 does these days?

I love AOE 2, but I already own 2 versions of it and don't really see myself going through all the campaign bits again. A custom game browser that auto loads up the maps i want to play would make it an instant buy though.

Watch the video, you can see pretty much all the improvments. Theres also new DLC and campaign included, with everything else released before DE.

The AoE Editor is less powerful than the original War3 Editor, but with the new Blizzard EULA, no one will use the War3 Editor to make new Customs anymore, not to mention that the ability to even play many of them has been nuked by Blizzard, due to copyright infringement, and dev incompetence.
