Poland-Polish civ needs to be added
Why no Poland.?

The ''Slav'' civ is close But, I think they are meant to be Russians
with the unit type and bonus being all siege and I forget the unique castle unit..
hmm but it is not Polish calvary
Polanise (Namesake of country, translates to people of the fields)
So, the slavs do get a farming bonus? idk

Poland is slavic based culture YES and they would be a horse cavarly
Civ with a OP heavy Cav unit, basically a Steppe Lancer with insaner stats, a huge lance, leopard fur saddle, and eagle feathered wings of the back like the in game hussar

Good stuff. That's why I so pissed the made Lith's and not Poles its a ''team'' effort. I agree bohemia was very active in my Crusader kings simulations.
But didn't even mention the Mongol invasions, the Rus' bowed to them when Poles didn't (make unfavorable alliances to be left alone). Battle of Legnica as one example. There's a lot more than Grunwald and even for that alone I feel like there must be both Lithuania and Poland.

I disagree with the mindset that civs should be left out only cause the were defense-oriented and not trying to conquer their neighbors.
umm, about 70% of Rus' major cities got torched by Mongols- after their armies were smashed several times- first at Kalka, and then during the 2nd invasion on the Sit' river in principality of Vladimir-Suzdal'. Novgorod and Smolensk survived cuz the Mongols didn't feel like besieging them, and Polotsk was already in Lithuanians' sphere of influence at that point. and the Prince of Halych tore down the city walls and so that was the only principality that was spared (after Kyiv and Chernihiv already got torched), The same prince went on to get crowned as King of Rus' (what was left of it) by the Pope, and his son (briefly) occupied Lublin, because Poland went back to in-fighting and fragmentation between the Piasts- which lasted right until Casimir the Great- and his daughter married Yagaylo, starting the Personal Union that grew into the Commonwealth.

Look, I'm not trying to downplay Poland. In a perfect world, with endless civs, they totally should get a spot. But since AoK is game that's primarily focused on interesting midieval stories, and those usually involve conquering (or at least fighting repeatedly) a lot of other civs, I don't think they're the best pick. Which is why I'm gonna keep beating the drum for a Wendish umbrella civ that covers all Western Slavs- because I do think that having one "Slav" blob cover Rus, Bohemia, And Poland, while having its shield, UTs, and UU all be Ruthenian (though I still say that Boyar design is better fit for Bulgars, cuz it got VERY Turkic overtones) is ridiculous. But I also don't think the game needs to have both Polish and Bohemian civs- because the Euro-bloat is real, and I'd much rather see more Indian or African civs tell stories about places literally 90% of the players never heard.

Thats one of my key point's the Poles are ''in the game''

They are in a Mongol missions and in the Holy Roman Empire missions
too, just using different unit skins.

Its laziness or apathy by the devs
Funny enough one could make a case about how Spain should actually be Castilla and Aragon for the game timeframe.

In response to the "answered response" to the Question;

... the Time frame of the Siege of Vienna is way beyond that of Age of Empires 2, it's something more akin to be represented in Age of Empires 3 rather than here.

it's only 85 years past the last officially acknowledged campaign point (Noryang Point, 1598), :D

The wing hussars are actually a home city card,

in Age 3 for the German civ.

So you can role play them and charge the turks in Age 3.

Just a side thought.

Thanks for this discussion all. Good stuff here.

Except you do not get Winged Hussars in AoE3, they are just regular Hussars named "Winged Hussar", which makes the card art feel very bad (actual Winged Hussar in the card).
In my opinion, it is one of AoE3's most dissatisfying features.

Considering what devs are doing adding Burgundians and Sicilians and the change of name for Iroquois to Haudenosaunee and Sioux to Lakota on AoE3, now I see more likely the chance to rename "Slavs" to Ruthenians and add either Wends or Poles and Bohemians civs.

Is nice to see that devs changed mind about add more civs, but I hope the next after these ones could be something from RTW.

No. RTW or ROTW is Rest of the World.

That's true and we could use some more african ones too, especially Ghana.

Agree total let down. They look just like the normal hussar units, only with more hit points.

After watching some you tube videos
I agree the Serbian/Magyars light hussars were indeed first

And to be honest better reflect the Aoe2 time frame
being active in the 15th rather than 16th, 17th century.
That's more Aoe3 timeline indeed.
