Elite Mameluke I vote it s the most overpowered unit if played properly
Anti cavarly, anti infantry,high HP,damage,speed can take of siege weapons if micro managed anti unti also bonus damage against elephant deals melee ranged damage instead of pierece, pčlayed WITH sARACNES last night against a friend unterrly vanquished her forces with hit and run tactctis they also attack fast as well

Created a group of these about 30 i was unstoppable

Vote for your best/strongest unique unit

Also against foot soliders these are death sentence.

Due to their high speed (which makes them effective against foot-soldiers) and their natural strength against cavalry, Mamelukes are considered some of the best units in the game. This is offset by their high cost.

A well controlled group of these can take down any unit, except by higher number of ranged foot soldiers. Mamelukes are well rounded units suited for most combat situations.




I really don't see any true weakness with those, their speed and manvoureing properly can avoid siege and arrow fire plus bonus damage to cavalry so anything that comes close is hacke

yeah 11 mams are OP but weak vs siege/archer combo, because of low range. You gotta mass them with own siege or skirmishers. But i agree, every saracen campaign (saladin, el cid) I enjoy massing mams and raping the AI

Any ranged units massed by the new AI with their practice of spreading them out across the known universe. Ok more irritating than OP but still.

Never mind you kids who want to destroy and annihilate. Conquistadors and missionaries are the most fun to play. If you must be unstoppable--and you are agile enough to protect them-- longbowmen are where it's at. :steamfacepalm:

They are supposed to be the Anti-Mongols/Cumans faction which influenced by history in that the Saracens had the most success against the Mongols, Vietnamese also had alot of success against the Mongols. Their unique units reflect this. Rattan archer can handle alot of pierce damage, a big mob of Rattans will withstand the damage from Mangudais while Mangudai get wrecked by the rattans.

yeah a bunch of halbardiers and they are dead, 3-4 hits or so depending on upgrades on either side(even in the enemy only have pikemen it is still like 4-5 hits to kill) to kill an elite mameluke, that is a 35food, 25wood unit, where the mameluke is 55food, 85gold, yes the pikes total cost is only slightly over the food cost of the mameluke and thent here is a very hefty gold cost on top. and you know what when you loose one mameluke to those pikes, it gonna hurt those things are, as stated, expensive, where as when you managed to kill even 10+ of his pikes, well the enemy just gonna shrug on his shoulder and already have 20 more on the field, and eventually you are gonna run out of gold, if you dont do something against those pikes/halbs, where food and wood effectively infinite resources

Overpowered? You have to play a civ that's pretty mediocre until post-imp, and then get a unit who can manage to get a 3:1 kill/death ratio and still not be cost effective against anything other than Paladins and infantry. They're definitely strong, but I wouldn't say they're overpowered in a game balance sense. They aren't even the best unit the Saracens get access to, that has to go to their Galeons (best post-imp navy in the game arguably!) let alone the most overpowered in the game.
