Counter to Cumans?!
Why are they still in the game. Please someone tell me a solid way of countering them, that they can prove actually works. I love this game so much and I hate to see this happen to it.

Cumans are considered powerful because of how good steppe lancers are and how big an advantage the second tc gives them on land maps. A treaty timer actually improves cumans.

To op, what I've seen work on high level streams are playing mirror, or tower rushing them.

Concensus seems to be that they are just overpowered. Kimchuk archers have no wind-up on their arrows (like Mangudai before they were fixed in HD, the act of which does give some hope for a similar treatment in DE) thus turning them into the Stim Marines from Starcraft, Steppe Lancers are outright broken if the player knows how to abuse unit stacking+hold groud, then there's the movespeed and TC that probably wouldn't be so bad if that was their only strong suit and--...

Yeah. :/ tl;dr I have absolutely no idea, just cheese and hope I guess.

How does the second TC help that much in Fed?
JoshSA Nov 28, 2019 @ 12:37pm
To counter cumans just rush the enemy. It will stop any benefit they might have. Because Cumans can only boom with two TCs if you let them. And only get steppe lancers in Castle. So best case scenario you pressure them so they can't boom and then weaken them by the time they get to Castle age.

Still haven't found a good counter to steppe lancers. They seem to beat every unit once they are grouped up.

You start producing twice as many workers as your opponent. Which means you start getting twice as much money as them (except on water maps where fishing ships are better).

But dont most people just upgrade to castle?

I need to look more into this civ.

I have tested with some succes two civilizations that counter them. One is saracens, which unique unit, the mameluc, is quite effective since their bonus, and the fact that doesn't need to fight them in melee combat. Moreover, you can rush them with 10 archers in feudal age, which have a bonus +4 against buildings.

A second civilization would be the bulgars, which unique unit, the konniks, I have tested in fights of twenty against twenty steppe lancers, with only five to four casualties, but those casualties aren't casualties at all, since they become infantery units. Another good thing would be the fact that you can create them in the krepost, which is cheaper for start their mass production. One konniks, loose only the half of his HP against an steppe lancer under equal conditions.

The only problem of both civilizations, is the cost of their unique units, so you have to manage how to deal with your economy in order to produce these units effectively.

If you fast castle against cumans, they'll be at like 40 vills when you hit castle at like 27, and they'll start clicking up. Basically, that means you do a castle age allin, or you die.

Because if you throw down 3 tcs then, they hit castle and they're still up on vills, and they use all that money they've been making over you to spam steppe lancers.

Just think of it this way, every second that you're still in fuedal age is time they have 1 more tc producing than yuo. They have to be at least that much time behind you to castle age for you to catch up on villagers with a 3 tc boom, and they'll still have all the resources they gathered from extra villagers over you. That's why the 2nd tc matters, because it fundamentally means you can't outboom them.

But to be fair, if they didn't have strong caste+imperial age options, then playing a civ with a better late game and booming against them could work fine.

Cumans

im going to say that after hearing people cry for nerfs for many years that were not needed i now am beginning to think people are right about cumans being op. the combo of double feudal tc and faster cav is maybe too much. its not that they cant be beaten its just that they seem to have an advantage in team games specifically. they have good early game defense with the double tc. they have good raiding from the faster cav. they have good booming from the early tc in team games. they also have good units and upgrades.
Iron Man Nov 28, 2019 @ 1:48pm
rush them. they usually go 2nd tc right? they wont have defense other than walls
GrizzGolf Nov 28, 2019 @ 2:12pm
I would think rushing them would crush them easily
