so compare the two cards and try to get an idea
8 Gb ram is going to be just enough (on Windows 7, not sure about Windows 8/10).
This game is CPU - Heavy.
I7-8700k
Rtx 2080
16gb ram
And I'm getting sometimes 20 fps...
Need to restart PC for it to go back at 100+...
(1440p, ultra)
custom. low but only checks the blood, sharpen, 3d water render. 3d water render is optional tho. and please add the small tree mods for better gaming experience. i know it sucks, but i still love this game.
Yes CPU and RAM is important, but so is GPU dedicated memory. It needs to keep all the full HD sprites in memory.
Yes, GPU is important but for 1440p.
1080p is CPU bound.
Especially AoE.
Also OP asked about GPU in CPU game, that's what my answer was for.
I would disagree here, I'm running at 26% CPU and my limiting factor is my GPU bandwidth. I'm using 1080p, so saying it's CPU bound is incorrect for all cases. Depends on what your weakest component is, and running this game with a 2gb GPU will suffer.
I'm running at 21% CPU and 99% GPU and still game hits 20 fps.
I tested AoE2 at many programs and IT IS CPU bound.
