Bari mission 5 broken?
Can you even defend the city at all?
I'm stuck in Castle Age while my enemy is able to deploy tons of Imperial Age units. I can't build any economy and my resources are limited (not counting the 2 Relics). I don't see how I should defend the city from those never-ending pushes of Imperial Age units.
The hints say something about escaping Bari so I kinda expected that at some point i have to flee across the river, but this point never happens, the flood of enemy never stops until Bari is destroyed.
Is this mission bugged? How long do I have to defend? When am I able to flee the city?

Yes you have to keep the city undestroyed until the even takes place (about in 45 mins time mark if i remember collectly).
During the course of conducting submissions you are required to bring the units back to eliminate enemy troops attacking.
Make sure to destroy black smiths when they are seen.
Ah also, monks are recommendable.
You can easily convert some knights while fighting

Sorry, I should have been more clear.
I meant after doing the submissions. I destroyed the monestary, all blacksmiths and of course brought all the food carts into the castle.
Defending the city during the submissions isn't that hard, only the first wave with the trebuchets is annoying.
But after doing the submission the Chevaliers, Axemen and Trebuchets won't stop coming. I tried luring some to the castle and killing them like that, which went good until I was surrounded by 5 Trebuchets and another pack of Chevaliers and Axemen. I don't know how to defend from this...

well, I have done this on hard mode, let me explain how I did it

1. we start with a good amount of troops to lure outside the city, and just go directly to the Cyan's monastery. you will get 1000 gold, which is very handy to buy additional forces later on.

2. not so long later, yellow will come at Bari with trebuchets, but you dont need to worry with this initial attack. Red (Bari force) can face this one. just dont involve in their first fight, instead stack up your own army inside the city. I mainly produce a lot of crossbowmen, since they are the cheapest troop available. after this initial attack, dont lure outside the city; focus on defending the city with your crossbow and available money.

3. at some point you may need to buy trade cart to trade with Red's market to add your gold endlessly. a good decision is needed here, when to create crossbowmen, and when to create trade cart

4. in my case, I use around 25-30 crossbowmen standing inside the city, waiting for the incoming raid of yellow. after the raid, my crossbowmen will be around 19-20 (5-6 of them dead), and I use the available money to bring more crossbow. how to increase the number of my troops without losing crossbowmen time and time again? well, my troops standing behind the red while attacking yellow. this way I can slowly stack up to 40-50 crossbow and 20 knights.

5. it is an important thing to keep your market alive, since it is your main tools to get woods and food

6. a little micro : you can use your monks (or create them) to get 2 relics, 1 at the east side, and 1 at the west side of the city

7. at some point I was frustrated when losing my crossbow time and time again, but with lots and LOTS of patience I was successfully reduce the amount of my dead troops. the key is to let the red do the dirty job for you and you attack from the 2nd layer with your crossbow.

8. after you can buy knight, use those knights to fulfill the objective.

9. when you visit each Mills, dont forget to bring the ox cart to red's castle for get 1000 food for each ox cart. this is very useful resource to boost your army.

10. one note here : after you destroy the cyan siege engine at the north, yellow will throw everything on you (the "Defend Bari" trigger). so it is a good idea to prepare 50 crossbow and 25-30 knights at red base before destroying cyan siege engine. focus your knights to destroy every incoming siege weapon (trebs, rams) and let your crossbow do the rest

11. after defending Bari, everything will be much more easier. you only need to destroy Norman navy (orange) with your available ships, but those ships are more than enough

hope this helps

I have finished it just yesterday. I won it easily by destroying a single piece of the wall and filling it with a mixed army in defensive stance.

I'm also playing it on hard mode, I don't know how aggressive yellow is on lower difficulty xD
I finally managed to do it thanks to all your tips!

Getting to the monastery first and trading is something I actually did already, but bothering with the first wave really was a mistake. I just ignored the first wave, healed my starting troops and went on with the objective.

I tried that, but I personally had too many losses because of opposing Knights and Spearmen. I kept using my starting troops + some additional Spearmen, Knights and Crossbows to replace the losses.

I tried a mix out of both suggestions to great success. Main army are crossbows, protected by monks and Cataphracts as meatshield. Alot of my failed attempts had knights instead, which lost hard to Chevaliers. The switch was very helpful.

Another thing I changed, probably something I should have done regardless: I noticed that cyan's military buildings belong to yellow during the siege. So destroying all of them before completing the submissions was so helpful, yellow wasn't able to produce nearly as many men! Definitely suggest to always destroy all of their buildings, not only the blacksmith and objective.

Thanks again for the help guys!

I'm playing the standard level and it's really hard for me to complete. Does anyone know how to win in standard level in this Bari camampiagn 5
RoofKorea=BestKorea May 24, 2020 @ 11:49pm
trade carts dude.
Sir Conquerer May 27, 2020 @ 4:40am
Yeah, okay I used that when I had markets but still not enough men what other ideas do you have other than trade carts.
theworld May 27, 2020 @ 6:17am
Amass 60 Crossbowmen and use Monks to convert units from factions in Castle (Those in Imperial have Heresy and Faith and will die upon conversion).

Also use Pause and micro the wounded away while staying on a hill.

I have not only won it on Hard, I have defeated everything on the map.

With pause in single player you don't even need to be a good player, just a thinking one.

Ok, so I played this on hard, I must admit, it was pretty difficult and the yellow norman rushes really pissed me off and made me deal with him in the first 5 minutes of the game. Alright, here is how I dealt with him:
First, after you get control of the market, build at least 5 trade carts and send them to the furthest ally red market for gold. Then from the gold remaining train 2 or 3 monks for conversions and healing, then go the the red tower in the western most part of the Bari base, mass your troops there, hide some cavs behind the bushes a bit further up because there is the place where the trebs will deploy. Use Andreas Nautikos first to bait yellow's entire army into attacking him, once the whole yellow army is on his tail, send him in the Bari base inside the castle. The whole army will follow him and die at the castle walls. While yellow's army is busy suiciding at the castle walls, don't waste any time, run towards your first yellow base, the one in the middle as it is weaker, use cavs to attack the gates, run away, bait the exiting pikes into your swordsmen, bait yellow cavs into your pikes, then proceed into crushing yellows gate. Also you must have at least 2 monks with you, next you hold up money, research Redemption, amass about 15 monks and the slowly start converting the entire yellow base, try to convert the rams too as you will need them to destroy the yellow castles. By the time I finished this I turned both yellows into a farming bot I exploited for free farms. I converted 15 vills, you cannot build anything but you can use them to farm the yellow farms and then harvest wood after you convert lumber mills. By the time the timer started I just had to wait to go off and the occasional timer spawns. By the end of the game I had a 200/200 population, all researches available in Castle Age. Don't destroy the blacksmiths until you have full upgrades on castle age armor, then you will get the imperial upgrades for free. As for secondary missions, first send Andreas to the monastery, bait the norsemen into red's castle again, the come again to finish off the monks, then send some army/rams to destroy the monastary, this should be done before or after taming yellow normans, your choice. Have Fun.

okay thank you all for the tips I will use them in the other difficulties as well. I solved the standard difficulty I admit it wasn't easy.

To add to these conversations, do you guys know how to solve the Destroying all Castles before 30 minutes have elapsed in the Alaric Campaign. It is really hard for me, and for the Definitive edition on my computer I don't have the option for time elapse watch. I need some input on what I need to do. I tried several times and it is really hard for me. I did figure out that I need a lot of gold for this achievement however, that takes up time. I also know I need stone for castles. However, some castles are guarded by blue enemies and they destroy my army or trebuchets when sending to those castles. Also, how can I convince the allies in that level to attack different castles and not the one they usually do, because I can't seem to figure that out even when I tried ally help signal.

You can have the timer showing by clicking on F11 (if I recall correctly). The main idea is to signal the allies ASAP and build lots of Trebuchets (and train units to protect them, of course) and attack at the same time in different parts of the city with two armies. Don't rely that much on the allies. Resources are only an issue in the beginning since each destroyed Castle gives you gold (and then you can use the Market).
I recommend watching the videos in the speedrun website:
https://www.speedrun.com/aoe2de/level/Alaric_The_Giant_Falls#Hard
Chazb managed to do it in 22:06 so if you can replicate the strategy in at most 8 minutes more, you're good. You can also do it on standard difficulty to make it easier.
You'll get the achievement as long as the last Castle is destroyed before 30 minutes pass, so if the objective is crossed at say 29:58 you'll get the achievement even if the scenario lasts like 30:!0.

I am at the goth campaign, will try to figure it out for myself.

I forgot I get ownership of the castle and destroyed the castles the hard way, with siege rams, not even upgraded, it took forever.
