Hi, just bought AOE 2 DE, i played alot AoE 2 in the old days so not a total noob in this series.

So which faction/race i should pick in the start of my AoE MP gaming?

France because of good cav or any other better factions for beginners?

Welcome back! Franks it's a good option, but I think the best civ for begginers is byzantine:cheap defensive units, can play pretty much everything, and they have solid buildings.

My favourites would be Persians or Turks. Persians gets faster town centre production, meaning you can build villagers and advance through the ages faster. Turks get a gold bonus, free light cavalry and excellent unique unit the Janissary.

Why do you want light cavalry? If I knew maybe I would try the Turks.

I would advise against byzantines. Their playstyle is too passive and if you want to learn you need to be active and take decisions.
Britons would be better. Key things you need to master is the dark age, and booming. Britons are good for both. They also are the best at using archers. They don't have much else, but they're so good you almost don't need other units.

I would suggest the Spanish: +30% build time, viable tech tree for any strategy, one of the best team bonuses and can defend against raids better if you get Supremacy.

Exactly. Best Archer to Crossbow transition is what Spanish are known for.

Just mass canon pushers.

The word you're looking for is civilization.

byzantines good civ for starting to learn everything again. wide tech tree and cheap basic units

note aside: race or races as you and other people have mentioned in the discussions is for Star craft or other universal games. All civs in here belong to human race, so the proper term is actually civ

I found Franks to be pretty easy, rush paladins and trebs and you can murder everything.

Spanish don’t have xbows

Berbers are generally solid all-around, and are versatile enough for pretty much any unit composition you may need.

Play with Random civ and familiarise yourself with all of them.
