You should just get your brother to buy DE if he already has HD he gets a discount.
Pre-release there was a cupon for HD Edition owners which granted a 25 % (= 5 $) discount. Now, if you own HD Edition you can purchase the game through this bundle and still get the 25 % off as you will only pay for DE:

However, if you're interested in getting AoE 1 as well, I'd suggest this bundle as it applies the 25 % to both games:
