So, you can choose directions slowly.
If your controller won't go to bottom left/right, you might run the controller configuration program and see if it's registering them with the controller at all?
If you have a gaming keyboard, check its manual to see if you can enable N-key Rollover. A non-gaming keyboard probably doesn't support that, though.
Otherwise, if you have a numpad, you could try using the arrows on the numpad for movement; or you could try re-binding the action button to a different key.
