Important query concerning the bubble jump mechanic
I’m early on in the game and starting to notice secret areas/gaps on the map that can only (for now anyhow) be accessed by sneaky use of the bubble mechanic: jumping off your bubble only to immediately create a new one to stand on, and if you get your timing right you can move vertically or horizontally a fair old distance.

My problem is that this is crazy tricky to get just right, and I’m concerned that 75% of this game is going to be me battling with my soul to pull it off. How prevalent is this mechanic, and is it necessary to complete the game?

The timing is incredibly generous, just push the bubble button immediately after you jump.

You can use that to get between some screen much more easily or completely circumvent some puzzles, but it's not necessary to complete the game.

You can also pull off some tricks early by jumping on the frisbee. It feels good if you pull it off, but you 100% don't have to worry about it to progress through the game.

This is very much a "those tricks become redundant as you go along but speed runners will love it" situation.

Excellent thanks for the reassurance. I'm finding the platforming a bit tricky in general, and this is good to know.

just press jump and bubble?

its def not necessary for some basic level stuff but there are hidden areas designed specifically around it
Press jump and bubble simultaneously while holding the left or right direction to land perfectly on the new bubble. Make sure to press jump slightly before pressing bubble. I have jump on A and bubble on X, so it's pretty easy to hit A before X in one fluid motion.

You can also jump up and then press down and bubble to create a bubble below you, allowing you to ascend vertically. This method is slow but useful in narrow spaces where side jumps are not possible.

you can jump then bubble, or bubble then jump. as one said, the timing is very generous. i find it much easier to jump first, but you cannot create a bubble at the apex of the jump. so you have to create the bubble anytime while elevating in your jump and as long as you're moving slightly to one side or another, you'll land on the bubble

I recommend switching from your analogue stick to your dpad if you're planning on doing precise vertical ascents using bubbles. Errant analogue input can dash your dreams of infinite climbing if you don't.
