Gold edition gives you access to AC3 and Liberation remastered. Three games for 10€ is a good deal.
The leveling is annoying because you can end up in areas where you do nothing but tickle the ennemies while they will one shot you (though it's not as bad as Valhalla), you can still survive if you are veeeeeeeeery careful. Leveled items on the other hand add variety, but it also means endless grind for new gear until you reach max level.
The stories and sidequests are okay but suffer from the open world syndrome where, on one hand, they give you a sense of urgency, but on the other, you can spend 300 hours doing something else, it won't really matter.
Naval combat is okay, on par with Black Flag I'd say, though sailing can be quite boring. You have none of the activities like coastal forts or harpooning BF had, it's mostly going from A to B and sinking a bunch of ships on the way.
Summed up, If you enjoyed Black Flag, it's very much it except Ancient Greece and more RPG styled. If you like the era and setting, absolutely go for it, the game is still beautiful and you can spend hours just wandering around exploring.
honestly they shouldve had darksouls combat from enemies and yourself. instead you rely on op weapons and abilities you find mid or late game for that feeling of being powerful or doing any damage.
The additional content like facing down mythical creatures in ancient Greek lore can be very tricky, especially if you aren't prepared, armed and levelled correctly.
you are as much one person on land as you are a captain of a ship as well, captain of a small trireme and it needs upgrading to get the most out of it. Ramming is often one of the best means to taking out a hard target, get the wind on your side and the waves to help you and enemy ships can be broken in half easily, even with stronger bounty targets.
There is a lot to do in addition to the main quests, you got a lot of open world tasks, exploration, side missions and the like. Starting from an insignificant island to a the rest of Greece, it can feel pretty daunting, that's what i remember most about Odyssey when i last played it 5 years back.
I might get it again and play it through. i hope it works on Proton without issue, Valhalla and Origins did, so this should be fine.
I never have a problem with stealth working because I always invest 100% of my level ups and gear spec'd to assassin. There will be the odd captain once in awhile that I'll stealth strike it and then have to swing at a few times to kill, but it's not as bad as people say.
The game is still gorgeous today. I just recently picked up Mirage and playing that made me want to come back to playing this. It's one of those few games that really resonates with me.
