Cause both weapon engraving affect the ability and damage of both weapon at same time.
Player basically wield that blade but then using secondary equipment that yield higher damage than the blade itself.
i can't help but think of Odyssey as a "mobile game" where they try and entice new people with so many damage numbers on the screen that makes you feel like a god playing it, with only thing missing are actual numbers. it's all psychological to entice you with something not important overall for the immersion and story.
i never engrave and i never upgrade because every 5 minutes i get something better. if we only got certain amount of weapons then both engraving and upgrade would feel better and more satisfying, but with the way that it is it makes the system pointless.
i get that some people may find so many engravings and different stats thrilling, but i play games for the said story, not figuring out what gear with that stat fits my playstyle. after all the whole point of an Assassin game is to play from the shadows, not go at it weapons blazing leaving a trail of corpses for everyone to see.
i much prefer previous Assasin games where fighting was simpler but story more evolved and detailed.
i was thrilled to play both Origins and Odyssey equally, having not spoiled myself by other people at all concerning the story and gameplay, but the evolution took a nasty turn with Odyssey. it was a change from Black Flag to Origins but it felt fluid. it didn't try too much to be something completely different while bringing something new. Odyssey tried taking it further and missed.
if i ever replay the game i am doing it with heavy mods to tweak the game to what it was always meant to be without mods.
It does, it shown the difference in damage before you equip the blade like my screenshot below shown.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2561879363
If you look at this screenshot, you would realize the blade boost all my hunter, warrior and assassin damage once I equip it.
Then the below screenshot show the percentage of damage I currently dealing with the blade at respective 290% for both warrior and hunter damage and 510% for assassin damage. It even show the current unique modifier at it's right which is currently active.

The only thing that does not stack is having 2 same legendary engraving at same time. So if you have either an armor or weapon with both legendary engraving, change either one of it.
They are not heading to mobile game direction, they are trying so hard to emulate the success of The Witcher 3 game and it's rpg element.
Epic gear is good for sustainability. But legendary gear have overwhelming advantage with proper engraving and upgrade. With proper setup, a good legendary gear can literally one shot an enemy 12-15 level above you with ease even at hard difficulty. You cannot do the same with most of the epic gear.
I don't even remember there is once where I literally one shot an elite mercenary that is 10 level above me with epic gear even thought the gear was proportionate with my current level.
The current AC is heading to the direction of rpg rather than emphasize entirely on stealth mechanic alone only.
With Valhalla being consider as major success ever in AC series, they going to put more focus on the rpg element in the upcoming AC.
So it's no longer only about stealth without caring about equipment and build, it also about planning a build to make stealth more efficient.
You can still play the game with your same principal, fighting from the shadow and only kill those who you need to kill without leaving a trail of corpse everywhere. It only have wider prospect where player can choose to do so or not, nothing is stopping you from doing the same thing you did like playing with the older AC.
Some people who play this game doesn't even play conquest battle or quest related to conquest battle cause it doesn't fit the assassin creed. Unless you are completionist, you can also choose to do the same.
it's not about the Blade but the other weapon. you said it's normal for the engraving of the Blade to influence using the other weapon, but the +250 damage doesn't apply to that other weapon, so basically it's hit with a negative without providing the positive. and no, the two legendary weapon i used at the same time in the same mercenary fight didn't have the same engravings, so both should be applied to each other, yet the damage didn't. am i missing something here?
for simplicity sake i actually sold/dismantled all my epic gear because there was just too much of it and each with their perks and engravings it became too much of a mathematical equation than enjoyment of just playing the game. so i'm sticking to only legendary weapons and gear sets. have yet to test out the entire sets fully upgraded to my level since i'm saving money and resources to finish off upgrading the ship, but if it's as you say i can't wait to stick to one set fitting my playstyle and not bother with others.
no of course i didn't mean literal mobile game, but just the fact that it's all about the damage numbers rather than one-hit kills from the shadows like from previous titles.
sure i still play from the shadows, but often times the game forces you to face combat head on without ability to avoid it. for an open world non-linear game it sure makes you play exactly like they want you to a lot of the times which defeats the purpose of the open world non-linear game. and no i don't mean following quests.
success of Valhalla doesn't mean people like what they've done with the game because success is measured by how many purchases were made, not how many of those purchases were regretful or dissatisfied after trying the game out.
Odyssey in itself has become tiresome and i can't wait to put it behind me. it's just too big, too copy/pasted, too much focused on side-quests that don't tie into the main story without much time focused on actual main story. the overwhelming stats and engravings only add to complicate the simplicity of gameplay of previous games where the games themselves were more linear in their storytelling and therefore more engaging and keeping the player satisfied and enticed.
i've had fun with Origins even though it shifted gears from Black Flag and the others alike because it was still similar and familiar, but the path Odyssey took dissatisfied me immeasurably. not talking about the story which i like, but too many other details that just made the game more of a chore rather than enjoyment.
my example would be watching a movie 10 hours long with main character and their story appearing in the first 15 minutes, somewhere in the middle for another 15 minutes and then the end for the last 15 minutes, the rest of the 9 hours and 15 minutes focusing on following neighbours and main character helping them do chores.
you just don't get the same involvement you would if watching a movie 2 hours long focusing on the main character and their story only. that's the problem of Odyssey and other open world games where the story is less linear and world too big with too many things to do that pull you further and further away from the story you started playing the game for in the first place.
it needs to have an ending sooner rather than later and let us actually miss the game rather than grow tired of it.
The damage applied as soon as you equipped it. On this screenshot below which I provided, I stripped off everything and as you can see, I have 3,428 and 3,400 melee damage respectively on both slot.
https://ibb.co/9yPR5MM
With the blade equipped, I have a total of 6,070 damage at my secondary weapon slot due to the blade of yumminess bonus. I don't know why the math is off by such a huge chart, it should basically increase it to 8,500. Maybe because it did't calibrate the other bonus together and only count the blade bonus. Nevertheless, you can see it applied the bonus of 2,670 damage which tally up to 6,070 damage.
Some engraving on the other hand doesn't display on the inventory screen but whether the effect applied or not is still shown at the details stats which you can see by going to inventory and click shift.
You can still one hit kill. The only differences is that now you have to plan on how to achieve such a result instead of blindly playing it.
That's exactly what is all about. Valhalla sold more copies during its first week of release than any other Assassin's Creed game.
https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/the-assassins-creed-franchise-just-had-its-best-sales-year-ever/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed_Valhalla
Because the sales is better than any AC in the past, they going to focus more on the rpg element.
https://metro.co.uk/2021/05/12/next-assassins-creed-will-continue-rpg-formula-says-ubisoft-14566379/
i didn't say i can't one-hit kill, but that it depends on the skill, weapon and gear, which is a monumental drawback from previous titles and relies too heavily on numbers and stats and mathematical combination. i wanna play the game, not go back to school playing it.
you're linking what i never denied. my point is that the sales don't represent the satisfaction of those sales. i know too many people that "jumped on the bandwagon" only to regret their decision later. however they feel about the game doesn't matter in the end because they already paid money for it and contributed to those sales, which is the main reason a lot of games boast how many "copies are sold" but never mention how many actually regret buying the game.
If you are only talking about sword, every legendary rarity sword have same dps with Blade of Yumminess except Sword of Damokles.
https://assassinscreed.fandom.com/wiki/Sword
Here you can see the chart where each weapon dps at max level under the category of Peloponnesian War (5th century BCE).
Unless you are talking about epic rarity sword.
In the case of epic rarity, epic weapon would never outdo legendary weapon dps. However, the difference is huge if we are talking about upgrade cost.
The upgrade cost of epic is more reasonable in comparison to legendary. I don't know what level you are currently in. But once you reach a certain threshold, upgrade is a very costly process even for a single equipment.
https://ibb.co/yQvLgbj
Here you can see the cost difference in upgrade between epic and legendary.
If you engrave a epic rarity weapon with the same engraving yumminess have while wielding a legendary rarity weapon, the situation would have reverse.
I don't know what's is wrong on your side. I login to the game, upgrade both sword to my current level and try it out since it been quite a while the last time I use Yumminess sword.
Try both out and the damage for both sword was literally the same with a small gap differences of 1-2k.
Perhaps you mistook a critical hit for normal hit?
At 40-60%, it can critical quite often.... I don't know what kind of build nor gear you use. But if you use gear such as Pirate set, you can critical very often.
That's not yet include mastery level which provide critical chance bonus.
My build was jack of all trade build, but when I increase my critical chance to 65% sometimes I can even critical 4-7 times in a row.
The critical damage was display on yellow color.
up to 60% is quite often and, like you said, my gear could've contributed significantly to that number.
well i guess it's all in the realm of normal behaviour then. at least i learned that the engravings are shared which i thought was a bug either in game or weapon itself.
That explain the problem. Don't look at the health bar, look at the damage indicator. Sometimes you might see the health bar lost more when using Yumminess, but in reality the number of hit are generally the same with only a difference of 1-2 hit.
Yes, engraving on armor and bow contribute to melee weapon performances as well. That is why you can see some bow have xx% Warrior Damage/Assassin Damage.
The only thing 1 must avoid is to have 2 same legendary engraving on the equipped gear since they did't stack but normal engraving do stack.
thanks for the insight. even though i'm done with the main story, the map and every possible quest imaginable on it and have only DLCs to do, i'll get some enjoyment out of the stats of my second weapon for the time i have left with the game.
