No greek language localisation?
Too bad, I wanted more authentic immersion

Games that have authentic languages always are a step up above the plain boring english.

But we gotta keep in mind that the animus most likely translates everything to the language of the user.

I would also point out that even if they offered a Greek localization, it still wouldn't be very authentic. Localization would almost certainly be in modern conversational Greek, not Classical Greek, which is accurate to the time period. They are very different.

I wonder if the NPCs speaking (and singing) Greek are using ancient or modern. It'd be cooler if it were all ancient.

I can tell you this. Some of the language used is not only incorrect for the time period, it's incorrect for most living Greeks older than the millennial generation. The word "malaka" was NEVER used in casual conversation until very recently. Millennial greeks have adopted it as a way to casually call someone a "j*rk off". This is absolutely not what it means!

I didn't dare use that word in front of my family or even say it to a friend in jest. The first time one of my younger employees said it in front of me, I briefly considered firing them. Point being, it was shocking to me the first time I heard the word in-game, and became more immersion breaking the more it was said. As much as I love AC Odessey, believe it or not, this is my biggest complaint.

Well about a hundred thousand stupid foreigners on holiday in Greece are going to be calling everyone "malaka" every time they get into an argument over the rental price of a moped or whatever.

This exactly, which is unfortunate, and one of the reasons I take exception to it. Still love the game though.

Any Greek people playing this game...
I am Greek American (1st Gen) and picking up this game really meant a lot to me! I have been to Greece a few times throughout my life and loved it. It felt really cool revisiting some of the places I have been to and as cheesy as it might sound, made me feel a bit more connected to Greece since I can't often visit.

Some places that were awesome to revisit were Athens, Kefalonia, Mykonos and Thera.

In the game I love how Mykonos still had a bustling chora like it does today, with its blue and white buildings, tavernas, winding streets and nightlife.

I anticipated Thera to have not been developed as it is today when I first sailed there in game. It was fun to try to point out where some of the future small towns are situated (Oia, Imerovigli, Fira), and of course stayed to watch the sunset :smilekit:

I was wondering if anyone else can relate. It isn't often we get a game that takes place in Greece with this level of detail, and for me it has been one of the best experiences in gaming.

Yeah, it's really cool seeing all these places recreated in the game after visiting them in real life.

I am from Phokis, the region Delphi is in. Delphi looks great in the game.

Nice. Unfortunately where my family is from, Lefkada and Preveza are not locations in the game, but glad they added at least one of the Ionian Islands.

I am British and the Greek isles are frequent visiting destination, they are really quite accurate in terms of shape and the views are very reminiscent. Is so cheap to go to Greece and the people there sell me all their food for all their Drachma...I mean Euros.

They did a great job with Crete and its awful beaches! BWAHA

That is so cool! Thanks for sharing your experience with us, OP. I'm happy to hear that the game was a great representation of the actual locations themselves. I haven't had the chance to travel to Greece yet, but from seeing actual pictures, Odyssey really does immerse you with a beautiful recreation of the country. :steamhappy:

Cool. I have kinda same experience with AC Unity. I'm not French though, but I have a chance to visit Paris frequently and it's cool to see places that I've been in a game. I'm so in love with the city

Never been to Greece irl, but when i brought Microsoft Flight Simulator i would get into a helicopter and fly low and slow over places that i had been to irl like Japan and Hawaii.

Those places that you guys have been to irl that are also in AC Odyssey...you didnt happen to take any pictures did you? i think it would be really cool to show an irl pic of Phokis or somewhere else that you've visited and then go into game and get to the same location/angle and take a screenshot so that we can do a side-by-side comparison.
