Don 42 - Dnieper Objectives
Just finished the Don campaign, very enjoyable indeed. The developers did a great job capturing that sense of Soviet over extension, I thought. My hubris cost me a lot of veteran tanks steps and specialists in the later missions.

Not that I came close to capturing them in my play through, but what benefit is there to capturing the Kherson Bridge and Kremenchug objectives? The briefing mentions improving your position in subsequent scenarios, but this is the final mission. There was a similar objective in the last mission of Desert Rats if I remember right.

Thanks!
Vincent

A lot of the campaigns end with a finale scenario that has a relatively simple main objective with more difficult secondary objectives. There is no subsequent scenario but they will change how the post-campaign final screen map looks. It does functionally nothing, but consider it bragging rights and a measure on whether you accomplished a historical victory or an exceptional better-than-historical victory.

Now that I think about it, the other campaign to have this in spades is Moscow 41, where all the final scenarios are basically freebies with very hard stretch goals. That one, like Don 42, has no alternate history path, so think of those stretch goals as the alternate history path.

That's interesting, so it changes the final screen map. I'd be interested in seeing the final map from someone who's completed all the objectives out of curiosity. Here's mine!

Here's the map from my campaign with the bonus objectives complete. I believe every campaign has subtle historical vs alt-historical changes in the final screen like this.

If you ever get the chance, look up the Moscow 41 scenario chart; it shows exactly which bonus objectives are needed to take back certain areas of the map. I'm pretty sure there's over 50 variations!

Thanks for the responses! I must admit I'd no idea that the campaign map was so dynamic. Will try a bit harder with the bonus objectives on my next playthroughs!
