Yet if you think about it in a sense where I have my army on 1 parcel of land, and you have yours on a parcel directly connected to it and we wish to switch and not have utter chaos ensue as our units tried to swap, yet save fuel and time by simply crossing over each other as opposed to one stepping aside and going around the other, it could be a we bit messy I think .
Just my thoughts on the reasoning to not allow it for saving move points and such and it makes good sense in that regard, especially when you consider the fact we would be doing so on a active battle ground situation and if a ENEMY seen us do this it could be a killing field too.
WOuld be perfect time and target area for Arty , you know. I get the why, just hate that the time itself routing and such can not be saved.
It would be far harder to code into game movement mechanics than I it would seem I bet. Plus , and I do not mean you my friend when I say this, some one would very quickly dislike something in the AI and its routing the units for a player for some reason like terrain costing extra move points or something and the " WHY THE HELL DID YOU PUT THIS STUPID AI PATHING in like this ?" crying and bemoaning would ensue for sure.
As I say , I wish we could have a way to do it myself, but get the fact that it might cause deeper issues than it may solve. Also the realism factor.
Most field Commanders dread having to cross another unit directly and avoid it at all cost unless directly ordered to do so.
Good question though, and one that seems like nothing on the surface, but goes far deeper in impact than most would ever think of. Save those that have been involved in this type of thing in real life, and seen first hand the CLUSTER F*&K that it is every single time its done.
None of this is meant as a verbal attack on your very good and valid question, please DO NOT take it that way.
Respectfully,
Stone Dog
After all, units are able to move through friendly units with no extra movement cost, why shouldn't they just be allowed to swap around.
If two adjacent units have enough movement left to make the move, it should be as simple as using Shift+Click to swap them around.
sounds like good a balanced compromise
