Although I must admit that I really don't like this and had hoped for a different answer.
To be honest, I find it quite annoying that I am forced to do this mandatory army micro management at the end of every scenario (i.e. check which units are leaving after the scenario and transferring their steps back to HQ) unless I want to loose the specialists for which I paid with my hard earned prestige.
From my perspective - as a new player who only plays this game for less than a week now - this is really an annoying manual effort that should be automated by the game (i.e. the game should automatically remove all specialists from units that are leaving and put them back into HQ reserve at the end of a scenario so that nothing is unintentionally lost).
Is there any good reason why this is not an automated convenience function? Maybe I - as a new player - am missing something here and it is a plausible design decision that I simply cannot see at the moment?
Check file "units.yml" and "enroute_units.yml" at
\Unity of Command 2/_packages/dlc2/data/campaigns/barbarossa.usc/scenarios
all unit id can be found at
\Unity of Command 2\_packages\dlc2\data\campaigns\barbarossa.usc
"units.yml"
Even if you reorganized all specialist, it is still not a good idea
because at each scenario begin, there always be some "out of range" units, which still cant deploy any specialist or step.
What would be better is:
At conference screen - see all units attached to each army, and how many scenarios they are. Ability to move around steps and specialists in the conference screen - even between armies. I think the whole point of the conference screen is that you're planning the campaign - so this is where it makes sense to do it.
At scenario selection screen, also see which units are with each army, but maybe not able to move them around at this point.
At start of battle - some manual selection. Maybe ability to move a few units a few spaces based on your preferences. I already always move around my HQ and supply depots. Don't know why I can't do units too.
But agreed - it's a great game and this is just a minor annoyance (though it definitely should be improved since it's kinda basic).
