Why Ctrl+Scroll to zoom?
Why not just Scroll-wheel? Seems very counter-intuitive to me, and I keep forgetting.

Also, what do people with no scroll wheel do? There appears to be no keyboard zoom option. I know many of the old grognards won't have "modern" mice with scroll-wheels ;)

Hi ShadRach,
I was initially surprised by this too. But it is because scroll is used to allow you to shift between extended movement and non (latter let's you both move and shoot; former only move (but more)). Though I found overall that the space bar seemed more reliable for shifting between modes.

Oh right, that kind of explains it. And Space is much better suited to this, I agree. I just don't know if I can get used to remembering to hold down Ctrl for zoom...

At least the people with no scroll wheel can use space to toggle mode, but for zooming there is no other option at the moment.

It makes me laugh how developers never cease to come up with more and more unintuitive ways to do things that have already been done before in plenty of games. If only they studied other games before they designed their own. I cant be bothered with cranky controls.

The primary function of the scroll wheel in the game is to allow you to toggle quickly between extended and standard movement (also done by space) and also to rapidly and conveniently select different types of offensive or defensive orders. Scrolling through possible orders is not easily done with say the spacebar instead. You do not want to start zooming in when you want to select an attack type or to change attacks when you want to zoom. Both could cause errors in a fairly unforgiving game.

So the secondary function, zooming, is enabled by hitting control. I personally have found no need to zoom outside of the tutorial where it teaches you and little need to rotate the map. However, I am constantly checking the effects of different orders and the scroll wheel is very handy for that.

This game is not like other games, in a few ways at least. And I'm not just talking about controls.

Space is fine to switch between extended movement. They could also have added middle-mouse click as a convenient toggle.

Mouse wheel for extended movement should have been an optional feature, not forced. It's basic game design that the mouse wheel zooms your view in and out.

I would appreciate a keyboard option for zoom (Ctrl + or -) ? too. My mouse wheel doesn't appear to play nice with this game.

Same for me with preferring space bar. And I also keep moving and attacking unintentionally because of the switched left and right-click behavior.

No need to break quasi standards in strategy games. At least allow us to customize controls please. This would also support beginner friendliness.

I would very much like to be able to remap the mouse scroll wheel to zoom. I know this is a very easy to implement request. I'm surprised it is not in the game.

the game is inconvenient in a couple of ways. Dont know why. But it gives me a hard time right now.

They really need to add mouse wheel zoom.
