Not to mention it's not funny at all! Red Magnus is a lone bright light among a cast of gloomy kids. And where's all the hilarious fourth wall breaking? I've got my best laughs from Magnus' attitude and from the... secretaries.
Red Magnus turned from one of the most stupid guy in the cast into one of the most reasonable and actually caring for others' thoughts, and most of all, stopped referring to himself as his title, but as 'I' instead. His change of attitude and the way he viewed his allies, and how he learned that something that happens could also be his own fault was just a tip off the hat for me. This blew my hate off him instantly and turned him into someone I really respected.
Usalia had her moments, but the fact that she stopped feeding her thoughts on revenge, and instead to spend her time fulfilling the wishes of what her parents wanted her to do represented her growth throughout the series, from a child who lost her families and Netherworld, to someone aspiring to save it all, protect her new family and rebuild them. I kinda already liked her from the beginning, so it didn't really change much, but it kinda felt like I was watching my child grow up.
Zeroken, yeah, the little whiny, lying, and much to say, bragging kid. I thought this was a character I wanted off the cast most at first, cause' he legit felt like a 2nd Seraphina in a different, but somewhat worst aspect. But then his arc came in, and boy, he turned inside out differently. He started by acknowledging his weakness, revealing his pure reason of wanting to save Goldion, how he spent so much effort trying to achieve what Killia expected of him, and so much more. The whiny, showoff aspect of him all went away, and he fell flat on the cast with pure honesty. Zeroken, in a sense to many, felt like a little brother who became matured and more honest with his feelings.
Christo, was a little off the screen for me honestly. I didn't care for this guy as much as I did with the three others, and his arc felt somewhat weak. He had his moment and affirmed his resolve, but it didn't had quite the impact that it did compared to the rest above, but hey, I love the moments when he interact with others, him being like hiding the fact he's an angel, and the rest pretending to not know.
Killia, uh, as much as he is the protagonist, he kinda had some developments already going on before the game actually even starts (With him turning from Killidia to Killia, and supressing his inner Overlord self). Although the building up from the beginning until his peak point on his arc was quite interesting, it took a little bit too long to keep my interest holding on him, so it fell off short when he had his moments (Which was kinda late because I already had my eyes on the other three). The most reasonable and caring character of the team, learnt how to open up to them overtime, and made his strongest fear, into his strength.
Seraphina, yeah, uh, hell no. The entire reason for her arc was so dumb I can't even begin to find a reason why I should like it. Oh, and the moment when she obtained her new power, she went KYUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN and I facepalmed. For the first time in my life. I was legit expecting better.
If I had to list on characters based on favouritism and how they turned to be :-
1. Zeroken (Unexpectedly, I really love how he turned out to be after his arc)
2. Red Magnus
3. Usalia
4. Killia
5. Christo
6. Usalia's Yellow Prinny (I LEGIT LOVE THIS GUY'S EXTREMELY AND UNNECESSARILY LOUD PYON WHEN WE GO INTO THE CURRY SHOP)
No, there's no Seraphina in this list, get out.
You're going to be disappointed. She stays that way during the entire game with a slight moment in the spotlight during her personal chapter (14 IIRC).
Again; just look at how similar this cast is to previous itterations of Disgaea characters then see how they fall short in exactly the regions their original did better.
Adell and Killia
Rozalin and Seraphina
Christo and Flonne (or even siscily for that matter)
Usalia and Fuka
Which leaves Zeroken and Magnus for which I really couldn't find any doppel of a previous disgaea character...funny how their story and development is better than that of the others....coincedence ??
EDIT: Why in blazes didn't they add Champloo in the DLC characters...he fits perfectly in the context of both mechanics and storyline. Yet another missed chance I think.
Seraphinas character arc is more of a joke tbh which is why i found it dissapointing.
Its not gamebreaking by any means (doesnt even have anything to do with gameplay) but still
I love her. Usually that kind of personality would piss me off but there's something about her that just has charm.
I however HATE killia (at least the English voice actor...I almost always exclusively play with Japanese voice overs but ironically, I love Sera and usa, red is also pretty comical and reminds me of Mr Torque in Borderlands) but Killia, oh man, that emo annoys the hell out of me.
