Can't start the game
I tried changing the settings in the setup screen, but nothing seems to work.
Here's the error window that I get:

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Help is much appreciated!

Not sure, I'd try asking on http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/forum/ The dev doesn't seem to check the Steam forums very often

Run the winsetup file and switch the driver to DirectDraw mode! The recent updates to Windows 10 seem to screw with the default Direct3D driver.

Oh. Whoops. Sorry. I see the issue. You need to update some drivers on your computer. This is ALSO due to the recent windows 10 updates.

The obvious solution is to download the update, which is here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52685

BUT... if you wouldn't mind being a guinea pig for me, I think I might have a way to avoid others from having this problem in the future. The reason for this error is that there's plugin that connects AGS to Steam. Currently it requires an update to the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable. If you DON'T have that update, you get the error that you received. HOWEVER, I just received a new version of the plugin that does not require that update. Would you be up for testing to see if it works? If it works, that means I won't have to recompile a whole new version of the game (and break everyone's saves again!).

There is a file in your Gemini Rue folder called "agsteam-unified.dll". You need to replace that file with this one: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/99776311/agsteam-unified.dll

After you replace the file, try the game again and see if it works!

Sorry for the trouble. If this works, nobody will ever have to go through this again. :D

Hey Dave, thank you for taking the time trying to fix this problem! (:

I tried to replace the .dll file, which still gives me the same error.
My computer also had some problems trying to install the Microsoft visual studio 2015 (it didn't manage to complete the installation).
I do have Windows 8.1 Ultimate, I don't know if that matters?

I'll try to find some more solutions online about the failed installation of visual studio.

Cheers,
Astrid

Hm. I think I might have uploaded the wrong file. Could you try again? Link is here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/99776311/agsteam-unified.dll

Alright, I replaced the file with the new one.
Now I get this error: http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a77/MoonLotus/Access%20point%20gemini%20rue.png
It says: Can't find the access point from the procedure SteamInternal_CreateInterface of the DLL file agsteam-unified.dll

Hm. Stab in the dark, but in addition to the file you just replaced, try replacing the steam_api.dll file with this one: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/99776311/steam_api.dll

That did the trick. (:
It works now, without the installation of Microsoft visual studio 2015. ^_^

Hopefully this will prevent a lot of frustration for people in the future.
Cheers!

Hello.
I installed the game for the first time, since I bought it about a month ago and now finally have the time to play. Since I had the same error as OP, I won't start a new topic.
Here's the deal, game wouldn't launch, same error as OP, I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall Microsoft visual studio 2015 so I check the forums. Bam! A solution, downloaded and replaced both files, game is running! BUT. Played a few minutes of the intro and I can't use the menu or save my games. The ESC works when I want to skip cutscenes/dialogue but it won't respond for menu, F5 or any other shortcut. I just wanna know... Is the menu or saving only available from some point of the tutorial or something like that? I don't want to play 2+ hours and then find out that I can't save at all. Please help.

Everything works fine for me!
You should be able to save at all times, as long as you're out of combat (by pressing esc > save).
Have you tried running the game in window mode?
SoleiBee Jul 7, 2017 @ 12:00pm
I did, that didn't help, but I played with it for about an hour now and have figured it out! Yay.
I had to switch the driver to DirectDraw 5 in the config tool, to be able to acces the menu and saving system. =) Sorry if that was mentioned somewhere here in another topic, I'm just glad the game seems to run fine now. Thanks for replying and trying to help!

Ah, I'm glad you managed to figure it out! (:
Enjoy the game! ^_^
