Tomb Raider: Anniversary

Tomb Raider: Anniversary

Demo won't load.
I downloaded the demo before buying the game to see how it looked and to make sure it would run. I have Windows 8 and when I try to load the game it tells me I need to upgrade my operating system to Windows XP or Windows 2000 because the game is not compatible with my current operating system. Any suggestions on how to fix that?

Or does the full game actually work in Windows 8?

I have windows 8.1 64-bit. Demo would load for 5 seconds, then crash. Tried compatibility, but didn't show. Tried Run as Admin and that didn't work.

But I did find another thread with the solution to my problem, maybe yours too.

I found this on the internet and it worked for me (I did not have to reboot on step 8)

1. Click Start
2. Right click on Computer and click Properties
3. Click Advanced system settings on the left
4. Under the Advanced tab, click on the Settings... button in the Performance section
5. Select the Data Execution Prevention tab and click Add
6. Navigate to the game install folder and select tra.exe
7. Click OK
8. If the game still doesn't work, reboot

If you are running the Steam version and don't know where it is installed, right click on the game in your Steam library, click Properties, select the tab Local Files and click on Browse Local Files.

My Steam Folder is in a different location, but it is under SteamApps > Common > tomb raider anniversary.

The file name should be tra.exe but when I added it to the DEP list it changed it to Tomb Raider: Anniversary in that list.

It now works splendedly for me.

I would suggest before you Reboot as it suggests in step 8 if it doesn't work, open the game properties and "validate" first. I have found many a game requires you to validate the files before it works properly.

You may even want to do that first and then follow these instructions.

I didn't have too reboot either (:

Edit: I played the demo for 20-25 minutes and have not experienced a crash at all.

Thanks for posting that but I figured since it was only like $1.59 I wouldn't be losing much if it didn't work so I bought it. The full game works fine, however the demo does not.
