Changing the movement buttons

As I'm left-handed, it's become one of my oldest traditions to always rebind the movement keys from WASD to the arrow keys immediately after purchasing a new game.
However, this particular game won't let me. I go to the controls menu, I select "Up", I press my up arrow key, and nothing happens. It's as if the game doesn't even recognize my arrow keys as keys for some bizarre reason.
Is there a way to fix it or did I just waste my money?

The game uses the arrow keys for movement by default, so it won't let you bind them.

Each action can be bound to multiple keys. Press "BackSpace" to unbind an existing key if you want to use it for a different action.

But in my installation, the default movement keys are WASD. The arrow keys do nothing and, when I try to bind them to movement, nothing happens, again, almost as if the game for some reason doesn't recognize my arrow keys as keys.

The default movement keys are "listed" as WASD for everyone. The game won't let you "bind" the arrow keys, to anything, but they also control movement in-game. Have you actually tried playing?

Yes, that's how I know my arrow keys don't do anything.

Sorry. The arrow keys worked for me (even though I actually played with a controller).
Have you tried the "restore defaults" button? Or use the arrow keys on the "number pad" instead.

You're gonna hate me, but I don't actually have a numpad because I'm playing on a mid-2012 Macbook instead of a proper PC.

My Default Controls let me use WASD & Arrow Keys. It's weird how the Arrows seem to not do anything for you.

hi, i know it is not the subject of this forum but could you please tell me if this game allows you to control the head movement with a mouse like new games do or it's "keyboard only" controls here? cheers in advance

Woah now, how old do you think this game is? Havn't heard of any game use Keyboard for Looking since 98

well it's a remake of a game that did not allow that and i do not know how far they went with the enhancements hence my question. so i take that as "yes, you can look around with a mouse:.

Yea you look with the mouse, However in the Original games you can use a Controller or Manually Bind Mouse movements if you know how to bind in DosBox

So you're telling me there are left handed mice (do you still use the plural form lol?). Sorry for bumping this topic but I gotta know, like you have the mouse on the left side of your keyboard? Is OP just a dumbass?
