That wall jump in Damocles
I've come to the conclusion that my retail disc is defective. Having been unable to do "that wall jump" the first time I played Anniversary all those years ago I had to use a level skip cheat to bypass the entirety of this level and onto the next. And so here am I again, I had the choice of installing my old disc version of the game or buying it on Steam - I opted to play it from disc instead and what-do-you-know that wall jump is still bugged.

No matter where the camera is positioned or which direction key (W,A,S or D) and jump I press Lara will always jump away from the column towards the back wall. Every time. Any direction. Any camera position.

Also, having died in this room the blades in the floor that should lower when you pull two levers in the adjacent room bug-out and remain up while the lever's state remain on so you can't pull them again.

Watching walk-throughs on Youtube or reading guides the jump looks effortless so I can only conclude the copy of the game I own (original 2007 release) is defective.

And so I skip the level again.

What's worse is I remember having to level skip again later on in the game when a platform over some lava which should have been there, wasn't (I still have the screenshot as proof!). So that's probably bugged as well.

Those grapple-swing-wall-jumps are probably the most difficult action in the game. Things such as making the rope shorter to jump higher can be a little confusing. I don't think I'll ever get used to the relative-to-the-camera movement, especially with all the scripted actions in the game.
I read some useful advice to briefly release all direction controls just prior to jumping back from the wall.

You can also download save games for any checkpoint, so you don't have to skip the whole level.

After having suffered this difficulty several times, the tip is to use no direction arrows, and jump immediatly at the end of the first swing after grabing the hook with the grapple.

I am sure you have read this several times, but what works for the Steamversion is this: You wait until the moment she doesn't move anymore and then jump backwards. It is tricky and you will need some tries, but once you have learned it, you can do it whenever you want. And if I am right, there are one or two more situations, in which you have to do the exact same thing.

I don't have the PC version so I can't say if it works differently or not. I've got this game on PS2, PS3, and 360. I assume you're talking about a sideways jump from a grapple. They can be tricky to do, especially since I'm not sure if the game actually tells you about it. I had a hard time getting it to work for a long time until I realized what to actually do.

You always want to align the camera so that you're looking along the wall, not at the wall. The camera has a tendency to wobble back and forth if it's facing the wall which could screw up the jump. With the camera set up, all you need to do is push forward and backward to run and then left or right to jump in a direction. I can do it every time now without even having to think about it.

For those who are still struggling to jump here in 2022 :)

You have to swing forth and the moment Lara truns around just release the controls. She sort of pauses for a moment before she runs back. So once she's turned and is about to run back, press left + jump (if the camera is watching along the wall). If the camera is opposite to the wall, then it's back + jump
