Do goods and debris despawn when left in space?
As above.

wondering as well

It doesn't seem so as I keep finding ship's remains long after having defeated them. So, if there is a "cleaning" process, it's rater slow or only when you make a jump to another system.

I believe goods/resources do despawn after a bit, but debris should stay indefinitely.

Both resources and debris never despawn (which is part of why endgame lags for some people)

Broken asteroids with no ore vein left should despawn. I have only visited 2 star systems and my saved game is already over 18 megabytes. That is huge...

Those multiple chunks should be marked as 'no save'. They can remain in the game until the next time I load my saved game.

So I'm merely blind when flying back to my 'salvage' markers and finding no resources around the wreck? That happens slightly to often, but I'll have to trust you on this.

If you're frequently building/repairing nearby wrecks, that'd explain it. Building/repairing prioritizes using resources freely floating in space, and it has a surprisingly large radius. It's easy to mark a wreck, repair, and fly off and do something else without ever noticing that the repair used most if not all of the resources floating nearby.

That must be the case. I am aware floating resources are priorized when building/repairing, but the radius must be much larger than expected.
At least that means I actually won't have to rush to grab the drops of the first enemy after finishing the second, so thanks for clearing that up.

I was wondering about some of the lag I'm getting. My game is currently chugging, and there's a lot of space debris in the system I'm currently in.

Some cleanup of space debris would be helpful. Perhaps NPC freighters would be dispatched to vacuum up space debris if the debris has been floating around for longer than 20-30 minutes. Enough time for the player to get first salvage rights, but quick enough that the game doesn't lag out.

Now I understand why I thought loot was vanishing when I went back to collect it.
I'm NOT going crazy, cool.
