Apart from some pretty broken familiars who can one shot you (I hated those) the rest is pretty trivial once your characters reached the right level, at least up until the very end.
I did my grinding while listening to some podcasts or other videos, it was mildly enjoyable (I enjoy grinding in general). After some, i was able to pretty much steamroll most of the game and enjoy the actual story.
You can also switch often between characters during combat in order to somehow micromanage them, also at some point in the game you unlock the ability to give them aggressive or defensive stances.
If you don't like this part, though, I'd suggest you play at easy difficulty in order to minimize the grinding needed.
like, going from Ding Dong Bell to Al Mamoon, and the difficulty jumped quite rapidly. had to grind really hard to not go underwater.
