First Torch Puzzle in in Ding Dong Well issues (Spoiler)

I've reached the first King Cat Statue in the well. It's obvious what needs to be done. I'm having problems getting all three torches to stay lit while I dash for the door. Here's what I'm trying with my XBOX X controller:

Position myself in front of left torch, magically light it. Position self in front of center torch, press 'X' button, press right bumper,(d pad down I think) then light. Press left joystick to right to center on right torch, press 'X', bumper right, stick down, press 'A' Button. repeat the process used on center torch on the right one. Press L-Stick to the perimeter of the stick limits while running for the gate. But by the time I get to the gate, the original torch lit has gone out.

What's wrong with my torch lighting technique? My reflexes are a bit slow due to my age, but I've got to be missing something like a means to rapidly reuse the same spell or run faster.

You don't need to run so fast. However the torches have an order to be lit and the first one you see it's not the first you shoult use your magic. So be ready.

Did you ever figure this out? I cant seem to light them all at the same time. Im doing it as fast as I can too.

No, I got distracted by another game. What I suspect is that I was lighting them in the wrong order. I was going to start a trial and error effort beginning with lighting them from behind the well.
