Ni No Kuni combat
I don’t really understand the game’s combat. You get way too much tutorial but I have no idea the basics of a fight. You can move around, but not all the time. You can block sometimes when you hit an enemy charging a big attack. What determines that? Is there any sense to running around? It seems to just get me hit without attacking.

Basically the best option I’ve found is to just mash attack and hope for the best. It’s super boring, but it seems to work until you get to a boss. Then I have no clue what to do.

I’ve seen a lot of people complain about this, but I just want to know how to play. How do you interrupt attacks? Is it worth it to move your character? Why can you sometimes defend big attack’s but are sometimes committed to a move you hit 5 seconds ago?

Thanks if you can offer anything helpful. I like every other aspect of the game but just want to know a method to figuring combat out.

I have a beginner guide on steam with tips for combat as well which will definitely help you.

I think the fastest way will be if you check some fights on youtube. The fights are about familiars and their abilities. Just attack with a familiar and if an enemy is charging a strong attack, interrupt the attack and choose Defend command if your familiar have it. If not, use Evade command. After the enemy's attack, interrupt the defend command and choose attack again. Switch to characters only when you need to use an item or a specific spell. Also it is good to have one familiar DPS and one tank. I recommend you to get these familiars: https://primagames.com/games/ni-no-kuni/news/ni-no-kuni-wrath-white-witch-advanced-party-buildi

Not sure why you seem to be struggling. The combat is fairly simple and the game gives you a whole lot of easy to understand tutorials around it. I would look up a guide If I were you instead of asking here.

To be fair the combat is not the most intuitive compared to other JRPGs cus its a mix of action and turn-based. Like in the beginning I did not realise that movement was important and the sign system is not explained well enough. But yea I do suggest checking a guide for more indepth tips or just playing more to figure it out yourself.

When I fight a powerful enemy or mobs I just run around in circles, while the companions attack. When there is a AOT I go for the option "evade" of "defend" (depending on the familiar)
Also, while running around I give time to recharge the actions.
