Co-op progression still the same?
I am considering getting this game but not if the co-op progression is still drop in drop out helper like in the souls games. Is it still like that or are there other options now?

the game only progresses the story for the host, not the friend, the friend will stay where they are unless they host instead

No co-op story progression etc. you play as a helper like in State of decay 2, elden ring and the other souls like games. It's an incredibly stupid design decision imo. I would buy it if it wasn't like that but nope so nevermind lol.

Depending on your taste, co-op is either good or bad. If you host a game and your buddy joins you, your game will progress and you will receive quest rewards. Your buddy will not get those rewards and when they leave will find themselves back where they were when they joined you. However, anything they got in your world will stay with them. If he learned a skill from a trainer and found a cool sword he still has them, for example.

The upside to this method is that you can both progress how you want without interfering with your partner, the downside is that you can't quite play the story "together." I'll give an example.

Bill hosts a game and his friend Bob joins him. They go out questing and Bill joins the Holy Mission faction. They do some Holy Mission quests and Bill gets some faction rewards. Bob does not gain these rewards, as he is "only helping" the host. Bill learns some chakram skills and finds a nice sword and chakram, and those he keeps alongside other items and money he gets. They decide to switch things up, and now Bob hosts the game and Bill joins. They go questing and Bob joins the Soroboreans. They do faction quests and Bob gets faction rewards, but not Bill. But Bill does find some sweet new armor and spells from a trainer. They hop back and forth until both faction questlines are finished, each player having their own story and special rewards while also experiencing another story with their friend. They both have time in the spotlight but never truly share it at the same time.

For the rest of the game, it doesn't matter who hosts as everything else is pure exploration and finding or crafting things. Each faction has 4 quests plus a bonus one. So it's not like there's going to be a sizable gap in power or anything even if one person never does faction quests.
