about Protection/Barrier VS dot debuff

if i get Extreme Poison... my hp will be reduced 3 hp/s
the question is if i have 1 protection
or 1 barrier

will i get reduced damage by 1 per sec?

Nope, barrier (protection is only against physical damage) doesn't help against DoTs. It would be extremely easy to become immune to DoTs otherwise. However, resistance does help against the elemental DoTs afaik.

Seconding this. If you're in the holy mission and wearing a full set of palladium armor and then use the "possessed" boon you can pretty much stroll through the poisoned marsh at your leisure compared to a baseline character due to all the decay resistance.

It's worth to note there is at least one exception as barrier will protect you from the dot you inflict of yourself by using mana ward in a sigil of fire.
