Different versions of the same game?

I just realized that when I open the game from the game page in my library on Steam, it opens Definitive Edition. When I open from the desktop shortcut, it opens Three Brothers and has a different saved game (the one I have spent the most time with). Either way, the game page on Steam indicates the correct number of hours i have played even though I was actually playing Three Brothers and not the version that opens from Steam. Can anyone explain this to me? What is the difference in the two versions?

Hy , i think there are jsut 2 versions .

Definitive editions (2 dlc in)
And the Outward standard editions with 2 dlc
But i advice you to use the Definitve editions .

So, crash course time.

Launching Outward via Steam's library you'll be given the option of classic Outward or DE Outward.

By default the shortcut launches CLASSIC Outward. You can change that by going into the shortcut properties and changing the URL to steam://rungameid/1758860.

Now, as to the differences, DE introduces DLC content across the other regions, which means you'll see special arrows in Chersonese, Enmerkar Forest, etc, and even in the other DLC area. Likewise, you'll find more regions with corruption that didn't used to have corruption, such as the area around the Cabal Hermit's hut and in the graveyard.

DE also added some minor balance updates and changes to some gear.

This all said, if you've got content in vanilla Outward you'd like to convert to DE, use the tool here: https://github.com/GymMed/OutwardSaveFixer/releases

Yup i just discovered why i couldnt get back to my old savegames after moving to a new hard disk. I was launching the game from the desktop shortcut which launch the old version one...I really thought i lost my entire playthrough

Seriously, thank you for this! I really wish that the base shortcut URL got fixed by default... Trying to start the game I just bought and it saying failed to authorize is not a good look. EDIT: Welp... now the title screen just sits infinitely loading, now. REALLY not a good look. EDIT2: Turns out you need to *log out and log back in to Steam* to fix that. Wanted to edit that in so if anyone else stumbles across this, they aren't left high and dry.

I suspect it's not something that needs fixing, it's working as intended.

Not everybody has Outward Definitive Edition, and as such, it defaults to launching classic Outward.

If they 'fixed' it, then anybody who doesn't have DE would likely encounter an error trying to launch the game from the shortcut.

Actually, found out that it's not the devs, it's the storefronts. They gave away Definitive Edition to those with the Three Brothers DLC, so storefronts refused to put it as a separate item, and they had to hackily make the original release the DE edition if it detected Three Brothers.

When i open Outward, it only has to original. Even when i open from steam it doesn't give me the option to choose between the two. Any ideas?

Well then it's pretty straightforward, you don't own DE.

You need to have the DEFED in the DLC tab, if you don't have just buy the DLC Three Brothers and you will get DE.
