Steam says I have Definitive Edition... but I don't...

I bought Outward quite a while before the Definitive Edition was released. Then I noticed that the Three Brothers DLC includes the Definitive Edition upgrade, so I put it on my Wishlist with plans to eventually get it. But then just now I noticed that Steam says the version I have IS the Definitive Edition, even though I never bought the DLC to get the upgrade yet.
It's also odd that the Three Brothers DLC says that the Definitive Edition is required to play. But the Three Brothers DLC includes it with purchase, so obviously you're going to have the Definitive Edition. I don't know, I'm confused by the whole thing. Why does Steam say that I have the Definitive Edition already? Did I get a free upgrade? Or is it just wrong?

steam doesn't say you have it, that's just the background picture they put up for the game entry, if you don't have 3 three brothers you don't have defed

its simple to test :

launch the game TROUGH STEAM. by clicking START. NOT FROM YOUR DEKSTOP that wont work at all.

if a small window pops up asking which version to launch you have the DE. if the window doesnt pop up and you boot up the game you do NOT have the DE.

No. It DOES say that I already have it. I'm not talking about the background picture. The Store page, literally says, "Outward Definitive Edition is already in your Steam Library".

then i guess it's the second part of what you said, it' wrong, they really shouldn't have done things this way it's caused so much confusion

That's because it's the only version they have on Steam, the actual DE is treated as DLC and it'll show up under your DLC for the game if you have it.
