Agree with you on the game in general though. Im 5 hours in and have noticed a total of 3 minor differences, 2 of which simply make the game harder - not better.
Most notably ritualist skills and dagger skills.
As for the difficulty, I had to restart when I was a noob because I was stuck in a deathloop. I saved the lighthouse (found the writs), but I kept on dying. Which advanced time, made me lost money/valuable and made all my food/ingredients rots. Eventually reaching winter with no gear no money and no food. So I was just dying when I went outside doing nothing. Spending 5 mnext to a campfire every 50m grew old very fast.
Early on, the game likes to kick you when you are down. And then, when you get down even easier, it keeps on kicking you.
Unlike say Dark Souls. The worst that can happen is losing your souls. Other than that, you can keep on dying and it won't do anything.
Eventually, I learned how the games works, then restarted and it was a non issue.
Had the exact problem in co-op yesterday.
Or maybe you don't understand that people complained about this problem for years and your fav game indeed can have bugs.
Never happened to you? Consider yourself lucky.
This is further complicated by the new "design decision" to despawn backpacks after a time, so lots of assumptions are being made there. If it was due to death, it's almost certainly unintentional and a bug. But if it's been in the game since launch.. damn, that's super no bueno, zero excuse for it still being there with a titled game re-release.
I've more than gotten my money out of the game, and I've recommended it to those I can willing to put up with its eccentricities, but honestly I'm just.. hoping for a sequel by now to have them take a second crack at it from scratch.
bug bags never disappeared for me (aside when left in a reset area of course but thats on me alone)
