Finding food in Abrassar Desert
I've been used to playing in other areas where there are lots of plants and fish, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of food in the desert. I've learned the recipes for Needle Tea and Cactus Pie (which requires bread that I don't know how to make but can buy).

What do people do for food out here aside from eat cactus?

What's available or what you bring with you? It is a desert, infamous for not being kind to life. Perhaps check dungeons or chase down a jewelbird to get something else than a cacti.

If you're looking for recipe's, there's a wiki.

Cactus, the odd fish, food from looting dungeons, buying food from Lavant.

Edit: Also larva eggs from all the bugs in the desert can be cooked if you're in a pinch.

Thanks. So as far as plants it's basically going to be cactus.

I could have done some smartass stuff, but I chose not to. But sure, here it is.

Ahem, next time you are running inside towns to heal up before going back out to deal with some enemies you can't otherwise handle. Stop by the chef and buy some non cacti food.

Ironically, I find myself swimming in decent food in the desert. Every few days, you can do a quest for the chef near the center of town. Kill some sharks up north for what the chef seeks. Beware the manticore, but if you can best it, alpha meat makes for some tasty sammages. Anyway, the quest will give you 4 spiny meringue, which you can also easily craft yourself once you know how. Hint: bugs are the "meat" of the desert (not literally).

My guide has a food section for all cooking in the base game so if you need any recipes there you go

No I don't need to cheat all the recipes, I was really just wondering if I was overlooking a plant or something that might not be obvious, sort of like the brown hanging mushrooms in the forest that can easily escape notice if you don't know it's a harvestable plant.

I didn't do the chef's quest because it sounded like he wanted something underhanded, but maybe I'll give that a shot. I took out a couple sharks earlier just to see what they dropped.
