Lost gear on death - Am I missing something?
I was defeated by bandits and taken prisoner in their camp, had to escape my cell basicaly butt naked and with just a quarter of my max health.
Alright, already a tough start.

Got to my backpack just to get clobbered by a bandit that snuck up on me while i was grabbing it. The combat music didn't even feel the need to kick in and warn me before the guy was already sniffing my hair.

Anyways, I respawn in the north-eastern area, which seems like a dead-end to me and beyond the ghost pass which I've been told by several npc is a place where I should definitely not be right now, and on top of all that all the gear I had equipped and the content of my pockets are gone.

So my question is, where did my stuff go? Surely it can't be gone forever, right?
Because I understand being punished for being defeated, it's not a new mechanic, but losing all your hard-earned gear and being sent to the other side of the map? Now that's just garbage if that's how things work in this game.

Once when I died I spawned on a beach and didn't see my backpack so I started searching, found it about 50m from my spawning point, no idea why. I'm pretty sure losing your stuff in this game is never intentional.

As for your equipment and pocket items, they are probably in a chest in the bandit camp, close to where you found your bag.

A rough start for sure. Hope you can recover your stuff.

your stuff is in the black chests inside the bandit camp probaly. same for the bag. i never had stuff permanelty disappear when playing solo aside from the zone resetting but that can only happen when youre in another zone or inside the city for atleast 7 days.

Aww man, I do remember seeing a chest right next to my backpack in the bandit camp!
Well, it's gonna be quite the arduous trip to get my gear back but at least it's a relief to know it's not lost.

Thank you guys for the answer :ss13ok:

the chests are inside the tent if it was montclam bandit camp. the tent thats right next to the southern entrance. can be reached without combat if you enter from there. really easy.

Your backpack is tracked in the compass as long as you're in the same area and close, if you lose it in a instance or inside a cave or smt it will be there but not marked in the compass. I think it should appear a bag icon in your compass, helps a lot to track it

If you were imprisoned in a bandit camp then the items in your pocket would be in a chest somewhere around the camp. Also as someone have mentioned, on your compass there'd be an icon that tells you where your bag is.

there shouldnt be anything to track it, as its a survival game and not a linear final fantasy game, if you drop your backpack or die inside a bandit camp, its your job to find your gear. if you dont care to and money is no object, then no worries but if you died to the bandits, chances are you havent figured out the way to get rich fast. which is simple.... just google "how to make money in outward" theres allot of videos on the crafting system, most if not all ingredients are free, so you can make a ton of money, you just have to invest the time to aquire the ingredients.

googleing such stuff up for a first run is pretty much cheating in this games case. stop suggesting that to new players seriously.

its much more interresting to figure such stuff out on your own for this type of game.

The most lucrative recipies for early game have been nerfed a few months ago iirc.
