1) Decide which bow i want to use in the end. Looking at the list of bows, apart from the Meteoric Bow, all bows deal almost exclusively physical damage.
2) Find armor that increases that damage, which means physical in this case. Since you are fighting ranged, the defensive attributes don't matter much, but movement speed and stamina penalties are bad. So looking at the lists in the wiki i come up with the following:
Helmet: Hound Mask
Body: Scaled Leather Attire or Pearlescent Mail
Boots: Scaled Leather Boots or Slayer Boots
If you need more running speed for kiting i'd use a Pearlbird Mask and/or Master Trader Boots instead.
As i said, i have no experience with bow builds, but that's what i'd do if i wanted to make one.
never played a full bow build myself tough. but i am tempted to try now with the new elemental arrows from ttb.
The BSA being 15 lbs doesn't mean anything cuz its weight isn't calculated when you wear it. Its pretty great armor for quite awhile from what I understand and I've got an archer who wears a full set.
Otherwise, ya, I'd go with Scaled early on, as its not TOO hard to get (you could cheese the Trader but having done so myself... its not fast) and the full set will give you a hefty boost to Phys Damage. Then just run to the forest and don't get killed by the Super Deer and got make a bow out of their horns and have some fun.
